Inverness United Preview – Can Caley find the points they need to move closer to the playoffs?

John Robertson is well experienced at this level and knows just how competitive a league the Championship is but even he will be surprised that this team are just three points off bottom. Inverness have played the fewest number of games of any team in the division (11) so there are opportunities for them to make up ground on the top and qualify for the playoffs which is ultimately their objective for the regular season.

Caley sit six points behind Dundee who occupy fourth spot and have two games in hand over that rival, with this being the first of them. Take the win and it would be looking much more positive for Robertson and his players.

Inverness have not been helped with the number of drawn games of late. Last week’s 1-1 draw away to Arbroath was their four share of the points in their last five. Considering three of them have been against teams above them in the table (two of them at home) then they will be frustrated that they have not taken the opportunities to make ground on their playoff rivals.
Although influenced by the fact they’ve played the least games, Inverness do have the best defensive record in the division conceding 15, and just five of them at home.

Alloa Preview – Will Alloa make it consecutive wins and move level on points with second bottom Queen of the South?

This is Alloa’s second season in the Championship under Peter Grant and as is so often the case it’s proving more challenging than first time around. Alloa come into this game bottom of the table and three points off Queen of the South who sit directly above them. That said, Grant and his players will be boosted by the fact they halved that deficit on Saturday when beating Queens 2-1 at home.

That was Alloa’s third win of the season and it was a timely one, too. If they win tomorrow night then not only do they go level on points with Queen of the South, but they also equal the current points totals of Arbroath and Inverness.

Alloa’s only points on the road this season came in a victory against Arbroath in the middle of December. They have lost the other five on their travels and have a league low of just three goals. If they are to stay at this level for a third straight season then that is a record that has to change, and quickly.

The experienced duo of Kevin Cawley and Alan Trouten are joint-top scorers in the league with three goals along with striker Robert Thomson.

Inverness vs Alloa Betting Advice

The competitiveness of the Championship is summed up perfectly in this game. A win for Inverness would put them three points behind the playoff picture with at least a game in hand over the other teams, whilst an Alloa victory would ensure the bottom club go level on points with Inverness and three other teams.

Inverness have lost the last two against Alloa, however those matches have been away from home so they will be looking to turn their fortunes around at their own stadium.

Key Facts – Inverness vs Alloa Betting Tip

  • Inverness have played just 11 games so far this season – at least two fewer than all other teams
  • Alloa found just their third win of the campaign at the weekend, beaten Queens 2-1
  • Caley will be out for revenge after losing their last two matches against Alloa

The home team have been draw specialists of late so it’s hard to be overly confident in them. Instead, over 2.5 goals to be the selection in this one. It would have been a winner in four of Inverness’ last six matches and eight of Alloa’s last nine.
