Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town take on bottom club Bolton Wanderers in the Championship on Saturday afternoon at Portman Road with the hosts looking to revive their fortunes following recent back-to-back defeats.

Ipswich made a blistering start to their new season with the Tractor Boys racking up four wins on the trot in the Championship which included victories over Birmingham City, Barnsley, Millwall and Brentford. As a result, they were in the frame amongst the top teams in the division in these early stages of the season.

But defeats to Fulham and QPR have quickly deflated their early promise, and their home game with struggling Bolton becomes a more important match where they need to pick up points. Ipswich possess a home record of  2-0-1  3/2, while forwards Waghorn and Garner top their goalscoring charts.

Visitors Bolton Wanderers have made a disastrous start to their Championship campaign as The Trotters are still without a league win and have gained just two points from their first seven matches of this new season.

Draws with Millwall and Birmingham City have been scant reward for their toils so far, and even though these points were both earned away from home, these have been against sides that are also struggling in the early weeks of this season and whom both occupy bottom half positions in the Championship.

Bolton gained promotion from League One at the end of last season, but the form which saw them relegated from the second tier at the end of season before last, looks like it’s reared it’s ugly head again. In addition, it’s a stunning 28 matches away from home without a win for Bolton Wanderers in the Championship…
