Scott Parker’s Fulham make the trip to Portman Road on Wednesday to face Paul Lambert’s Ipswich Town in Carabao Cup action. This second round tie looks interesting on paper, although the Premier League side are the odds-on favourites to get the win in Suffolk and progress through to the next round. Let’s take a look at the latest odds and tips.

Ipswich Town Preview – Can the Tractor Boys make home advantage count?

Ipswich Town were meant to challenge for promotion back to the EFL Championship last season. Granted, they were not helped by the 2019-20 EFL League One campaign being cut short, but the Tractor Boys were well below par last term.

Ipswich started well but fell off drastically in the second half of their campaign, eventually finishing down in a lowly 11th position, eight points adrift of sixth spot. Town won 14, drew ten and lost 12 of 36 league matches.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No

The Tractor Boys kicked off this league season with a relatively comfortable 2-0 home win over Wigan Athletic, who were relegated from last term’s Championship due to a points deduction. Ed Bishop and Gwion Edwards got the goals in that one.

Ipswich also beat Bristol Rovers 3-0 at Portman Road in the first round of the Carabao Cup earlier this month, with Freddie Sears helping himself to goals either side of Luke Chambers’ effort. Can Paul Lambert’s men win again in midweek?

Fulham Preview – Cottagers’ Premier League qualities to shine through?

Scott Parker did a sensational job at Craven Cottage last season, guiding Fulham to the Premier League via the Championship play-off route. After finishing fourth, the Londoners beat Cardiff City over two legs in the semi-finals. Two Joe Bryan goals then helped Fulham to a 2-1 win over Brentford in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in August.

Unfortunately for the Whites, Arsenal were too good for them in their Premier League opener last weekend. Parker’s men were second best throughout, with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners running out easy 3-0 winners at Craven Cottage thanks to strikes from Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Of course, keeping themselves in the Premier League will be the first priority for Fulham, but building momentum in the cup could be key in the early weeks of the congested season. Can the London outfit leave Portman Road on Wednesday with a win and a place in the third round of the EFL Cup?

Ipswich Town vs Fulham Betting Advice

Fulham have an excellent recent record over Ipswich. In the 2017-18 Championship season, the Cottagers beat the Blues home and away, winning 2-0 at Portman Road and 4-1 at the Cottage. In fact, Fulham have won each of the last four games between the two.

Key Facts – Ipswich Town vs Fulham Betting Tip

  • Ipswich have not beaten Fulham since a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage back in December ’15
  • Fulham have won the last four, scoring 11 and conceding just two
  • When they last met, the Cottagers thumped Town 4-1

Premier League Fulham will be looking for a comfortable victory in the cup at Portman Road in midweek. We like the look of the away team to win -1 at 9/4.

As for the first goalscorer, look no further than Aleksandar Mitrovic at 11/10. Last season’s Championship top scorer could be used by Parker as he looks to get fully fit. If he starts, those odds are just too good to turn down.
