Ipswich and Shrewsbury are two teams in desperate need of points as they try to put poor form behind them and begin climbing the League One table.

Ipswich Preview – Can Owls find what would be just a second win in their last seven league games?

Paul Cook was brought to Ipswich towards the end of the last campaign with a view to getting the club back into the Championship after this season. There was a significant outlay and influx of players in the summer to help him with that goal but the early signs are that they are set for another season of struggle. The Tractor Boys didn’t win any of their first six games and took only three points in that run. There has been some improvement of late with wins over Lincoln and Doncaster but a defeat to Accrington Stanley leaves them in 19th place and just one point outside the relegation zone.

Cook – who has won this division with Wigan – will not be panicking quite yet and will point to Ipswich having a game in hand on the majority of teams that could help them cut the gap between themselves and the top six (currently at nine points).

Bolton are the only team to have beaten Ipswich at home this season with them drawing four and that emphatic win over bottom club Doncaster. The 15 goals scored at Portman Road mean they have the best home attack in the division but also the worst defence with 12 conceded.

Whilst some of the new signings are yet to make the impact they promised that can’t be said for Macauley Bonne. The striker joined from QPR and has scored eight goals including seven in his last six.

Shrewsbury Preview – Are Wanderers set for a fourth straight win in all competitions to continue their playoff push?

Steve Cotterill is another manager who has experience of winning this division following his time in charge of Bristol City but the current Shrewsbury boss will just be hoping to stay in League One this time around.

Shrewsbury are second bottom with seven defeats in 11 matches. Only Doncaster have scored fewer goals and collected less points and despite being so early in the season it’s already looking grim for a club who have are playing at this level for the sixth straight season.

Their form away from home has been particularly poor with just one point from a possible 15. That came away to Sheffield Wednesday but they have loss to Morecambe, Portsmouth, Accrington and more recently Bolton. They’ve failed to score in three of those and will be desperate to improve on that record starting this weekend.

Sam Cosgrove was brought in on loan from Birmingham to give Shrews more fire power up top and although he’s the club’s joint leading scorer he still only has two goals in nine appearances and none in his last five.

Ipswich vs Shrewsbury Betting Advice

There’s no doubt this is a clash of two teams struggling at the moment but their situation are different. Ipswich were expected to challenge for promotion and will still have those hopes of becoming competitive at the top of the table. With one defeat at home it suggests they have what it takes to pick up points. They will have to defend better as alluded to above.

The visit of one of the worst attacks in the division should help with that. Ipswich have also beaten Shrewsbury in the last two home games will give them confidence they can get a third victory of the season.

Key Facts – Ipswich vs Shrewsbury Betting Tip

  • Ipswich have scored 15 goals at home this season – the most in League One
  • Shrewsbury have taken just one point from a possible 15 on their travels so far
  • The hosts are unbeaten in their last three against Shrewsbury, winning two of those

Shrewsbury will try and keep it tight but I’m really keen on Ipswich’s attack to get the job done against a fellow struggler. Just as they did against Doncaster.
