Konta can tough it out in tournament opener?
Any thoughts of Britain’s number one Johanna Konta having a deep run at Melbourne Park this year can be wiped out. She has been out for four months and still is struggling to get to peak health. The knee problem that she is still carrying was picked up in early January last year.
She has been in action this year. She entered and exited the Brisbane International in the first round of the Brisbane International, losing against Barbora Strycova in three sets. Jo Konta’s record at the Australia has seen her lose in the round of 64 in the last two editions. Her best efforts remains her 2016 place in the final four.

Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur is ranked 78th in the world at the moment and has never won a WTA title. She has some action on the Tour this year. Following a first round exit in Shenzhen, she ran to the round of sixteen at the Hobart International.
That was four matches she had in Hobart, two of them from qualification rounds. She narrowly lost out to Garbine Muguruza at the even in three sets. She has never made it past the opening round of the Australian Open. But Jabeur was a surprise participant in the round of 32 at the US Open last year.
