Italian Super Cup Betting at Marathon Bet

Juventus Preview

For all of Juve’s domestic domination – which has seen them win seven straight Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia’s – the Italian Super Cup has been the one exception. The Old Lady of Turin have lost three of the last four in this competition – including against this opponent back in 2016/17. That match was played in Doha and was the first attempt at taking this occasion around the world (or at least to the highest bidder). Juve travel to Saudi Arabia in exceptional form following a dominating first half of the season. Max Allegri’s men have won 17 and drawn twice in their 19 league games, qualified top of their Champions League group and won their opening Coppa Italia game at the weekend with minimal fuss. Focus now switches to Wednesday’s match with Milan and a bid to win their first Super Cup since 2015. Due to the attention the game has and how lucrative it will be for the club and Serie A, Cristiano Ronaldo will almost certainly start the game and lead what has been an imperious attack.

Key-Facts – Juventus v AC Milan

  • Juventus are unbeaten against domestic opponents so far this season
  • Allegri’s men defeated his former team 2-0 at the San Siro back in November
  • Milan have lost their last six to this opponent

AC Milan Preview

As good and as positive a first half of the season as it’s been for Juventus, it’s been much more of a struggle for AC Milan. Rino Gattuso has been in charge of Milan for just over a year and his tenue has been full of ups and downs. Gattuso led his team to the final of the Coppa Italia only to be thumped 4-0 by this opponent and have also crashed out of the Europa League before Christmas. One a more positive note, Milan ended 2018 in good form in Serie A, which seen them lose just one of their last seven games and elevated them to fifth in the table, just a point outside the Champions League positions. That would have been their aim at the beginning of the season and they have recovered well to ensure that remains a realistic target. It was also a winning start to 2019 for the club as they overcame a tricky away tie against Sampdoria in the cup – winning 2-0 after extra-time.

The Italian football authorities signed a multi-million euro deal which will see the Super Cup played three times over the next five years in Saudi Arabia. Since they signed that deal last summer, the Kingdom has been under severe scrutiny and condemnation for their alleged role in the murder of a Saudi journalist, and the decision not to move the game has meant there has been plenty of criticism of the Italian FA. Officials and players of both these clubs will just be happy to play the game, attempt to secure the Super Cup and then prepare for the resumption of Serie A this weekend.

Juventus v AC Milan Betting Advice

As alluded to earlier, this is a rematch of the 2016 Super Cup which Milan edged on penalties following a 1-1 draw. There’s an argument to be made that this is something of a glorified friendly due to the recent change of placement in the domestic calendar and also the selling of the rights to take the game to various locations. That will have an impact on how both coaches approach the game but the competitive edge will kick in for the two sets of players who take the field.

Juventus proved far too good for Milan when these two teams met in the middle of November and that is often the case in the recent history of this fixture. Juve have won the past six games against this rival and have lost only one of the previous 17 games, after 90 minutes. Allegri’s men are unbeaten against all domestic opponents this season and I’m backing them to continue that by adding the Super Cup to their impressive trophy collection.
