Preview: Top of Serie A, and boasting a flawless home record, are reigning Italians champions Juventus, who will welcome AC Milan to their Allianz Stadium in the knowledge they have beaten their next opponents on each of the last eight occasions to have hosted them in the league. Will it be as straightforward as the betting would have us believe?

Juventus Vs AC Milan Live Stats & Betting Odds

Juventus Preview – Another routine victory awaits for Sarri’s Juve?

The defending champions in Italy are, unsurprisingly, leading the way once more although the lead Juventus (1st – W9 D2 L0, GF19 GA9) currently enjoy is a slender one. Inter Milan trail by just a single point in second-place. Therefore any slip up at home to AC Milan this weekend – a fixture they are seeking to win for a ninth straight season as hosts – could result in The Old Lady relinquishing its stranglehold of top spot on the cusp of the final international break of 2019.

Criticising a team good enough to continually find ways of grinding out victories seems futile. Nevertheless, Juventus have been good this season rather than great. Unbeaten in any competition throughout 2019-20 so far, the Bianconeri have won on twelve of those occasions, however, no fewer than ten were achieved via one-goal margins. Efficiency at its supreme best. Furthermore, this team never knows when to give up – that is for sure!

Their result in Russia on Tuesday a prime example. Douglas Costa leaving it until time added on in the second half to score a majestic winner away to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League, as Juventus secured a third consecutive 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, the last time Maurizio Sarri’s side were prevented from winning was in Lecce, in Serie A, at the end of the previous month when they created enough chances to warrant the three points. At home, inside their Allianz Stadium, Juve have triumphed in all seven competitive fixtures this season.

AC Milan Preview – Visitors to aid rival cause?

The Rossoneri – not to mention their manager Stefano Pioli, who was once in charge of first-team affairs at Inter – could hand their Milanese neighbours a significant boost in the race for the Scudetto were they to secure a positive result this weekend. That would, however, require them to achieve a feat last managed in 2011, which is the most recent occasion AC Milan (11th – W4 D1 L6, GF11 GA15) avoided defeat away to Juventus in Serie A – losing on all eight subsequent visits.

It does feel like too tall an order, on current form certainly. Since Stefano Pioli replaced Marco Giampaolo in the managerial hot seat, AC Milan have won only once – that against rock-bottom SPAL at the San Siro (1-0) – and collected just four of the twelve points that went on offer. In this sequence included 2-1 defeats versus both clubs from Rome (AS Roma and Lazio). The Old Lady are a big upgrade on that pair.

Scoring goals, or should I say in large enough quantities, continues to prove a conundrum not even Pioli has thus far managed to solve. This squad is blessed with enough quality attackers, but has only managed more than one goal on two occasions this season. That becomes one in four under the new manager who has, at the very least, witnessed his new side score in all his games in charge thus far. Polish forward Krzysztof Piatek leads the way with three goals, though two were converted from the penalty spot.

Juventus Vs AC Milan Key Facts:

  • Juventus have won all seven matches played at home in all competitions this season (five coming in Serie A action).
  • AC Milan arrive in Turin having lost their latest league fixture 2-1 at home to Lazio. They’ve won twice away from home in 2019/20 (W2 L3).
  • A dominant head-to-head which heavily favours Juventus. The Old Lady have won the last eight meetings staged in Turin, winning this same fixture 2-1 last season.

Betting Summary

It is rarely emphatic. Juventus, though, continue to find ways of winning football matches. Their midweek venture to Russia in the Champions League seen them secure a third consecutive victory in all competitions – all via 2-1 scorelines. All but two of their twelve wins this season came by a slender one goal margin. The Old Lady are 23/10 (PaddyPower) to win by one goal in this contest.

We still await the upturn in form that was expected from AC Milan when they decided to install the unpopular Stefano Pioli as manager. Since taking charge the Rossoneri have recorded only one win – at home to rock-bottom SPAL (1-0) – and banked a mere four points from the twelve which went on offer (W1 D1 L2). Last week, meanwhile, they were beaten 2-1 at home by Lazio.

Juventus are firm favourites, which is completely justified, but too often they make it difficult for themselves by conceding avoidable goals. There is, therefore, some logic in backing them to win an entertaining affair, especially with AC Milan looking to maintain a run of four consecutive away matches without failing to score – having also scored in all four of their new manager’s games in charge!
