Juventus – Allegri not getting a tune out of Old Lady?

It was presumed, on the basis that a coach who had overseen five consecutive Serie A titles between 2015 and 2019 was back in charge, that Juventus would emerge from last season’s slump – and the high-profile departure of Cristiano Ronaldo – as a serious challenger for the crown they relinquished so meekly to Inter Milan in 2020-21. So far, this has proven not to be the case, and emphatically so.

After surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Udinese, Juve went and lost back-to-back games, at home to newly-promoted Empoli (0-1) and away in Naples to rivals Napoli (2-1). The last time they navigated the first four rounds without winning was in 1961-62. There is a genuine fear this feat will be matched on Sunday, however, winning just one of the past five competitive games versus Milan (D2 L2).

Consequently, The Old Lady sit 16th in the table. Eight points back from an upcoming opponent boasting an immaculate record. Goals have been few and far between, just three so far, yet the costly mistakes (we are looking at you, Wojciech Szczesny) have been plentiful. Moreover, having conceded in all three league games to start the season, they have extended their run without a Serie A clean sheet to 17 matches!

AC Milan – No ill effects from Anfield reverse?

Just three teams bring a perfect record of three wins out of three into the weekend’s fourth round of fixtures from Serie A. AC Milan are one of them, continuing where they left off last season by making it eight league games unbeaten, winning seven, with victories over Sampdoria (0-1), Cagliari (4-1) and, the most recent among them, Lazio (2-0). They travel to Turin Sunday eight points clear of upcoming Juventus.

Confidence must be flowing right now. In particular, in defence. The goal that was conceded at home to Cagliari on 29 August was their first since April, and is the only blemish in an otherwise immaculate defensive effort which has seen Stefano Pioli’s side record a shutout in seven of the last eight league games. Keeping more clean sheets since May of last season than any side in Europe’s top five leagues.

Milan were run ragged in midweek, though, but still found it within themselves to score twice at Anfield in a spirited 3-2 defeat to Liverpool. Thankfully they won’t encounter a forward line with so much pace and ingenuity this weekend, with Juve struggling to carve out chances early on. Milan also won this fixture 3-0 last season, adding to the successes they enjoyed away to Atalanta, Inter, Napoli and Roma.

Juventus Vs AC Milan Betting Advice

The Old Lady are on the ropes. One point from a possible nine, averaging a goal a game, and having failed to record a defensive clean sheet in seventeen consecutive league games, the hosts come into Sunday’s mouthwatering contests under enormous pressure to deliver a first win on the domestic front in 2021-22. Victory in Sweden during the week was as routine as you like but badly needed, beating Malmo 3-0.

Juventus Vs AC Milan – Key Facts:

  • AC Milan have won two of the last three Serie A matches between the sides (L1), which includes last season’s 3-0 rout in Turin.
  • Whereas Juventus (D1 L2 in 2021-22) are without a clean sheet in 17 Serie A games, AC Milan (W3 in 2021-22) boast seven in the last eight.
  • Four of the last five Serie A contests between Juventus and AC Milan produced a minimum of three goals. The away side scored exactly three in both league games last term.

We can therefore expect AC Milan to come out swinging, sensing vulnerability in the home camp. Stefano Pioli and his team have made a flawless start in Serie A, winning all three matches by an aggregate of 7-1. They’ve not conceded in seven of the last eight league fixtures, going back to last season, and were formidable away to the big sides, beating all of Atalanta, Inter, Napoli, Roma and even Juventus.
