Preview: Beaten in a six-goal epic earlier in the week, can Juventus, whose lead at the Serie A summit remains a healthy seven points, bounce back immediately? This in-form Atalanta side will have other ideas, though, as the visitors go chasing not only a memorable victory at Juventus Stadium but also their tenth consecutively in Serie A.

Juventus Preview – Imperious record in Turin on the line?

A mere bump in the road on their journey to becoming Italian champions for a ninth successive term? Possibly. After all, their advantage at the summit still stands at a healthy seven points with only seven more rounds to play. But what Tuesday’s spectacle at the San Siro did prove, as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 away to AC Milan, was a worrying lack of depth in the defensive department.

Juventus (1st – W24 D3 L4) looked all set to open up a ten point lead atop Serie A, scoring twice inside the opening eight minutes of a pulsating second half in Milan, taking what many assumed was an unassailable 2-0 lead. Some calamitous defending would spark a collapse of epic proportions, though. The absences of regular centre-halves Matthijs de Ligt and Giorgio Chiellini keenly felt as AC Milan scored four without reply.

That was a first loss of this restart for Maurizio Sarri, whose side had previously won seven straight Serie A games by an aggregate of 19-3. Hardly a disaster therefore. Back in Turin this weekend, The Old Lady are expected to return to business as usual: they’re now the only side still to lose a home fixture this season (W14 D1), dropping just two of 45 points thus far and winning each of the last eight inside Juventus Stadium.

Atalanta Preview – Serie A’s in-form team seeking biggest scalp of all?

As those around them falter, one team looking to capitalise are Atalanta (4th – W19 D6 L5). Le Dea climbing within two points of Lazio in second and as many points clear of Inter Milan in fourth, who had played a game less at the time of writing. Suddenly the chance to cap this remarkable campaign – one which could still conclude with them capturing the Champions League – as a Serie A runner-up, or perhaps even better, is well and truly on.

Particularly as Atalanta boast superior momentum than any of their top of the table rivals, with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men currently on a nine-match winning streak in Serie A that includes all six fixtures played since the resumption. Meanwhile, for those who assume this team is all about the attack: Wednesday’s 2-0 scoreline at home to Sampdoria was a third consecutive win in which no goal was conceded.

A fourth consecutive Win To Nil would be a magnificent achievement. Not least because next up is a trip to Juventus Stadium, where no visiting team has so far managed to win all season in Serie A. Yet, Le Dea are in scintillating form right now and hardly short on confidence. However, their record versus the best is more solid than spectacular, having drawn with the likes of Inter (1-1), Lazio (3-3) and Napoli (2-2) on the road this season.

Juventus Vs Atalanta Betting Advice

There is the very real prospect that Juventus slump to back-to-back Serie A defeats for the first time since August 2015, after losing in dramatic fashion at the San Siro to AC Milan during the week. Up next for Maurizio Sarri’s men, whom won seven on the spin prior to midweek, is third-placed Atalanta. A team seeking to win for a tenth consecutive game in Serie A, winning their previous five away match-ups by an aggregate of 20-5.

Juventus Vs Atalanta – Key Facts

  • Coming into this game on the back of eight straight league wins at their Juventus Stadium, Juventus are the only team in Serie A this season still to lose a home fixture (W14 D1).
  • No team in Serie A is currently enjoying a more sustained period of success than Atalanta. Le Dea winning their last nine league fixtures consecutively, and all of their previous five away from home.
  • The last three Serie A meetings – including this season’s meeting in Bergamo which saw Atalanta beaten 3-1 on their own patch – featured both teams among the goals

It should be noted, almost as a word of caution, that despite the impressive attacking numbers these are two of the most well-organised sides in Italy. No team conceding fewer at home than Juve (11 in 15), while Atalanta rank second for away goals conceded (17 in 15). Yet that hasn’t prevented three of four prior match-ups between the two in league and cup producing Over 2.5 Goals. Meanwhile, each of their last three Serie A battles featured both teams among the goals.
