Preview: Only two of the past 14 Serie A meetings between the clubs saw the away team emerge with all three points, suggesting Jose Mourinho’s Roma charges could be set for further away day misery in Turin when they take on this resurgent Juventus inside Allianz Stadium.

Juventus – Old Lady singing again?

It may have taken them until the middle of September to notch their first Serie A win of this season but Juventus will feel they have finally arrived in 2021-22. Massimiliano Allegri’s team made it three league wins on the bounce when snatching the spoils late on in the Derby della Mole prior to the international break. Manuel Locatelli’s 86th minute winner the only goal of a tightly fought encounter with Torino.

In all competitions, that is now five wins out of the last six, having also picked up vital wins in Europe against Malmo and Chelsea to move top of their Champions League section. All of a sudden that slow start, when failing to win any of the first three league games, seems a distant memory. However, while The Old Lady are clearly in the ascendancy, there remains work to be done with regards to climbing the table.

Juventus resume in seventh place, four points adrift of Sunday’s opponents AS Roma who occupy the fourth and final Champions League spot. Meanwhile a title tilt seems unlikely even at such an early juncture, with leaders Napoli ten points better off than Allegri’s false starters. Although, having won nine of the past ten renewals of this fixture here in Turin, they can be confident of cutting into at least one of those deficits.

Roma – Mourinho striving to avoid third-straight away reverse?

Among the early takeaways of Jose Mourinho’s short time in Rome has been the sheer volume of goals his Roma side are scoring. The two they managed in the 2-0 win against Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico before the international break, easing past the newly promoted outfit, meant they scored in all eleven competitive matches this season. Finding the net at least twice in all but the 1-0 home win over Udinese.

Across all competitions they are averaging close to three a game. On the road, the Giallorossi have turned out three times in the league (W1 L2) and on two occasions so far in the Europa League, totalling eight goals in the former and five in the latter. But this still wasn’t enough to avoid defeat the last two times they went travelling in Serie A, downed 3-2 by Hellas Verona and arch-rivals Lazio.

Hardly the sort of form you would want ahead of an away meeting with this rejuvenated Juventus side. Albeit their opponents porous back line – The Old Lady conceding in 20 of the last 21 league games – suggests Mourinho’s men will get plenty of attacking joy inside Allianz Stadium. Not that their recent record there supports this assertion, having failed to score at all in five of six previous visits to Turin.

Juventus Vs Roma Betting Advice

Jose Mourinho’s Roma arrive in Turin having lost each of the last two away matches in Serie A, both via a 3-2 scorelines to Hellas Verona and Lazio, and aware that their record in this particular fixture is abysmal. Since 2012, the Giallorossi has avoided losing just once in ten visits to Juventus – catching The Old Lady cold in the early stages of last season as they surged back from 1-0 down to claim a 3-1 win.

Juventus Vs Roma – Key Facts:

  • Going back to 2012, Juventus have only once not managed to register three points when playing Roma at home, doing so ‘to nil’ in five of the six seasons prior to this one.
  • After opening with a four-game winless run, Juventus are seeking a fourth-straight Serie A victory on Sunday. The Old Lady recently ended a run of 20 league games without keeping a clean sheet.
  • Roma are yet to draw in the league this season (W5 L2), though they are looking to avoid losing a third successive away fixture. They’ve scored in all 11 competitive matches so far this term.

Juventus have beaten Roma TO NIL five of the last six times they’ve met in Turin, although there is little evidence pointing towards a repeat on Sunday. This Roma side ooze goals, scoring 29 in 11 competitive matches so far this term. Their opponents, meanwhile, only recently halted a run of 20 consecutive league games without registering a clean sheet, but have ground to make up. This should be fun.
