Preview: Saturday’s standout fixture from Italy sees Jose Mourinho send his Roma side to the Allianz Arena striving to preserve one of just three remaining 100% records in Serie A. Standing in their way, though, is a thus far unbeaten Juventus who would win 10 of 11 previous league meetings here in Turin.

Juventus – Old Lady yet to find their groove?

In pursuit of a first Scudetto in three seasons, Juventus have begun their second season under Massimiliano Allegri by taking four points from matches against Sassuolo (3-0 home win) and Sampdoria (0-0 away). Reasonable enough so far then. Although supporters demand more, and there is growing discontent amongst the fan base at what they perceive to be too many turgid displays on a regular basis.

That goalless affair merely the most recent case in point. Shorn of Angel di Maria, the catalyst for their decisive opening day victory, Juventus turned in a flat performance in attack. Departing Stadio Luigi Ferraris having created a meagre 0.48 worth of xG. Things are at least clicking up the other end of the pitch, recording back-to-back shutouts, after ending last term conceding in their final eight Serie A outings.

Key Stat: Juventus have taken maximum points from one of their five previous Serie A matches (W1 D2 L2). They would fare only slightly better as hosts of late, winning two of the last five at Allianz Arena (D2 L1).

Roma – More to come from Mourinho’s men?

According to Infogol’s Expected Goals model, AC Milan are the only team to have conceded fewer xGA in Serie A so far this season than Jose Mourinho’s Roma. The Giallorossi have given very little away, albeit the fixture list had been very kind to them having faced opponents that either survived by the skin of their teeth last season (Salernitana) or came up from the league below (Cremonese).

Still, you can be sure Mourinho is thrilled with the full quota of six points thus far. Perhaps the only criticism would be the margin in both victories. Against modest opposition, Roma are still to score more than once in a game. We also still await the first goal of the campaign from an attacker. That, however, is surely a matter of time for a team which has created a plethora of scoring chances across both outings.

Key Stat: Roma have registered a clean sheet in each of the past three league games, beating all of Torino, Salernitana and Cremonese ‘to nil’. Meanwhile, on only two occasions would they concede more than once across their 14 previous Serie A contests.

Juventus Vs Roma Betting Advice

With neither conceding a goal across the first two rounds, this latest battle between an age old rivalry could be more about resolve than ruthless finishing. Which, should that be the case, probably should the pair of them, as neither have clicked into gear thus far from an attacking perspective. Both, however, are yet to lose this season, and I feel that may well end up still being the case after their Turin tussle.

Juventus Vs Roma – Key Facts:

  • Across the previous 11 seasons, Roma have only once managed to defeat Juventus in Turin (3-1 in 2020-21) and haven’t so much as managed to score in six of their last seven visits.
  • Both teams are yet to give up a goal this season. Juventus have four points from games against Sassuolo and Sampdoria, Roma six after successive 1-0 victories over Salernitana and Cremonese.
  • Juventus ended the 2021-22 Serie A campaign winning two of their seven home encounters versus sides that finished in the top eight (D3 L2) – though one of those successes came against Roma.

Juventus would win all three prior meetings between the duo, while there has only been one draw in the last eight. Nevertheless, if I had to propose a bet from the Match Odds market, it would be the 23/10 about the Draw. Either way, with neither breached defensively so far, I think we can expect few goals. This is usually the case in Turin as well, with Under 2.5 Goals and BTTS No landing in six of the past eight H2H’s here.
