Kalmar Preview – Can Kalmar build on recent Hacken win?
Third from bottom outfit, Kalmar, produced a rather unexpected 2-0 win away from home at Hacken over the weekend in the Allsvenskan which also put an end to a 10-match sequence without a win in the Swedish top flight.
Having lost seven matches within this 10-match period, Kalmar will have been mightily relieved to have ended this slump in form and grabbed a valuable three points but it remains to be seen whether the hosts have turned a corner or whether this was a ‘one-off’ result.
One suspects that it could be the latter as Kalmar have registered just two wins at their Guldfågeln Arena out of the last 23 matches played which is a poor record indeed, while their early home record this season stands at a disappointing 1-2-4 8/10 which includes four defeats from their last six matches.
Goteborg Preview – Can Goteborg continue slow recovery?
11th placed Goteborg have become something of the ‘draw specialists’ in the Swedish Allsvenskan so far this season as the visitors have been involved in no fewer than eight stalemates within their first 14 matches of this new Allsvenskan campaign.
As a result, Goteborg find themselves in the bottom half of the Swedish top flight and their situation wasn’t helped by back-to-back defeats against 3rd placed Norrkoping and 4th placed Djurgarden in 3-1 and 2-1 losses respectively back in early July.
However, Goteborg have since staged a slow but steady recovery as the visitors have lost just one further match out of their subsequent seven matches which was to the league leaders, Malmo, while on the road they’ve also lost just one of their last six, making them potentially stubborn opponents for Kalmar this Thursday night.
