Kilmarnock and Aberdeen replay for a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. It was goalless when the sides met in the original game 10 days ago but there needs to be a winner at Rugby Park on Wednesday.

Kilmarnock Preview – Can Killie end their home hoodoo against Dons and take revenge for 2018?

Kilmarnock fans are sick seeing Aberdeen at Rugby Park as the Ayrshire club attempt to beat the Dons for the first time at home since 2011. It’s an incredible run which has also included an agonising defeat on penalties in the same competition two years ago at the quarter-final stage. If Killie can end their jinx against Aberdeen they can reach the last-eight once again.
Alex Dyer elected to play five at the back at Pittodrie in the initial tie and it worked well to deny their opponent’s space. It’s likely, though, Kilmarnock will play a more offensive formation as the home team on the back of improved performances in the league.

Killie’s hopes of finishing in the top six suffered a blow at the weekend when losing to Hibernian – who they are in direct competition with for that sixth spot. Now four points behind, the Ayrshire club will be looking to bounce back by remaining in the cup and gaining revenge for that loss two years ago.
Striker Eamonn Brophy is finding better form since the turn of the year and has scored four goals in his last five matches. The switch to playing two forwards with supply coming from Chris Burke has given Kilmarnock a much greater threat.

Aberdeen Preview – Will Aberdeen continue their good record at Rugby Park to stay in the Cup?

It was a frustrating loss for Aberdeen at the weekend, going down 2-1 at home to champions Celtic. The Dons turned in a brilliant performance but still came up short on the day. Manager Derek McInnes was full of praise for his players, though, and that display alongside the win away to Hamilton is a distinct improvement on what came in the first month of games since the winter break.

The biggest difference for Aberdeen in the past two games is they’re starting to score goals. They four they have managed in the last week brought an end to six games without a goal.

Aberdeen will travel south on Wednesday looking to extend an amazing record at Rugby Park which has seen them win 11 of their last 15 matches. It’s the opposite from the weekend when Celtic defeated the Dons for the eighth consecutive time at Pittodrie. McInnes will be hoping his team can continue having the hold over this opponent.

Curtis Main has been given the nod up top for Aberdeen in the last couple of games with the misfiring Sam Cosgrove relegated to the bench. It will be interesting to see if Main keeps his place in the team for this one.

Kilmarnock vs Aberdeen Betting Advice

There’s no doubt that this record Aberdeen have over Kilmarnock will been on the hosts’ mind but it’s one they have to use as motivation. There was nothing between the teams 10 days ago in a game of few chances and it is a fixture which, recently, brings few goals. It was the eighth time out the last 10 meetings which has finished with under 2.5 goals.

Key Facts – Kilmarnock vs Aberdeen Betting Tip

  • The original tie between these two finished goalless at Pittodrie earlier this month
  • Kilmarnock have not beaten Aberdeen at home since 2011 – a run of 15 games
  • The winner of this tie will travel to face St Mirren in the quarter-finals at the end of February

The winners of this tie will fancy their chances playing away to St Mirren in the quarter-finals but we could well be waiting a while to see who progresses. This could well be a game that goes beyond 90 minutes and one I’m backing to be another low-scoring affair.
