Neither Kilmarnock or Inverness will want to fall further behind leaders Arbroath so it makes Saturday’s clash between the two at Rugby Park extremely crucial.

Kilmarnock Preview – Can Killie spark an improvement in their home form to leapfrog their opponents?

Derek McInnes was brought in as Kilmarnock’s new manager at the beginning of this year with one objective and that is to return the club to the Scottish Premiership. Killie continue to find it a grind – as many clubs have before them – but they remain in touching distance and the former Aberdeen boss will now be looking to kick on. A narrow defeat at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Cup last week was evidence that this is a capable group of players but they now need a run of victories in the league.

Kilmarnock are third coming into this weekend’s match – four points behind leaders Arbroath and just a point behind their opponents. They have a game in hand over both those teams, as well.

One thing McInnes will be desperate to find improvement in is their home form. The Ayrshire club have won four and lost the same number of matches at Rugby Park in the league. All those losses have come against teams in the current top five to compound their misery. They haven’t won a home match in the league since October.

McInnes has been backed this month with a number of new signings. Kyle Lafferty is the most high profile of those, joining again for a second spell. He scored eight in nine matches last season and is likely to make his first start here.

Inverness CT Preview – Are Inverness capable of making it three straight wins against Killie this season?

Few expected Inverness to maintain their title challenge but over halfway in the season and they remain in second place. Billy Dodds’ men were one of just two Championship teams playing last weekend but could only manage a draw away to Dunfermilne meaning they failed to move within a point of the leaders. It was also a fourth straight draw in the league and extended their winless run to five matches. Whilst frustrating, they are still well placed.

Caley Thistle’s last win was a 6-1 thumping of Greenock Morton back in the middle of December. They wouldn’t have expected to be waiting for their next win nearly six weeks after that performance.

Draws have been the name of the game for much of the season for Inverness. They have a league high six away draws which indicates they are very hard to beat (only one loss away from home) but would have like to converted some of those in three points.

Billy McKay and Shane Sutherland have combined for 11 goals in the Championship whilst Sean Welsh’s four goals from midfield have been a valuable contribution.

Kilmarnock vs Inverness CT United Betting Advice

As the current league placing suggests there has been little to choose between these teams in the previous meetings this season. Inverness have taken the spoils on both occasions courtesy of 1-0 wins but there has been fine margins in the fixtures.

McInnes will hope that his arrival along with the capture of Lafferty will be enough to turn the tables in their favour. Inverness don’t have anything like the resources of their opponents but they do have a system which works for them and it will be more of the same.

Key Facts –  Kilmarnock vs Inverness CT United Betting Tip

  • Kilmarnock have lost as many home league games as they have won this season (four apiece)
  • Inverness have lost just won of their 11 away games in the Scottish Championship
  • The Highlanders have won both meetings between the two this campaign by a 1-0 margin

Kilnmarnock may well just have enough this time but I like the under 2.5 goals market. Eight of Killie’s last nine games have went this way and as we have seen in the first two meetings, goals have been at a premium.
