Partick Thistle have conceded 10 goals in their last three games so a visit to top of the table Kilmarnock will bring with it all sort of fear as the home team chase a fourth straight win.

Kilmarnock – Can Killie maintain advantage at top of the table with a fifth straight home win in the league?

With six games to go of the regular Championship season, Killie are in the position they were expected to be at this stage but the gap between themselves and second place Arbroath means they have plenty of work to do in the remaining matches. Kilmarnock are two points ahead of their closest challengers in what is now a two-horse race for the title and automatic promotion to the top-flight.

Derek McInnes’ men have put together a good winning run and it could be just at the right time. Since losing back to back games at the beginning of February, the Ayrshire club have won five of their last six.

What has also been noticeable about that run is the number of goals they are now scoring. The 12 goals in six matches is a stark contrast to the form they had been in under previous manager Tommy Wright when goals were at a premium. Kyle Lafferty is forming a productive partnership with Ollie Shaw and the latter has scored three in his last four games to take his tally to 11 in the league.
Killie face the other four teams currently in the top five between now and the end of the season so whilst top of the pile, there is plenty of work left to do.

Partick Thistle Preview – Are Thistle capable of bouncing back after string of disappointing defeats?

Ian McCall’s men approach this game on the back of a really disappointing and underwhelming set of results and performances which has seen a potential title bid turn into a race to secure a top four spot and place in the promotion playoffs. Thistle could have been as close as three points behind Killie coming into this one but three successive defeats later are 11 adrift.

Even more worryingly for McCall is that his team are shipping goals. From conceding just one goal in four games, they have shipped 10 in their last three including back to back matches where conceding four.

Thistle now sit in fourth place and just three points ahead of Raith Rovers in what looks like being a straight fight between the two for that final playoff spot. Thistle will take some encouragement from the fact that they had a really strong end to the previous season to win the League One title and hope that stands them in good stead here.

Brian Graham is the league’s top scorer with 13 but he has not scored since the 9th of February which is now seven games without a goal. Considering the next highest scorers are on four goals for Thistle, it does carry some concern.

Kilmarnock vs Partick Thistle Betting Advice

This will be the fourth and final meeting between the teams this season and it has been honours even. Killie won the first clash of the campaign at Firhill whilst drawing there in their most recent encounter, and Thistle were victorious when the teams met here back in November.

Key Facts –  Kilmarnock vs Partick Thistle Betting Tip

  • Killie have won their last four at home in the Championship, scoring nine goals in the process
  • Thistle’s title hopes have disappeared following their last three defeats and have a fight to clinch a playoff spot
  • The three meetings between the teams this season have seen a win for each and a share of the points in the other

Considering the respective form of both clubs heading into this game as well as the positions they occupy in the league the way it’s priced feels a bit like a trap. Despite that reservation, I’m taking Kilmarnock to tick off another game by getting a fourth straight win.
