Kortrijk Preview – Can Kortrijk be consistent at home?
Friday night’s hosts, Kortrijk, will be keen to improve upon results at home even though it’s still early days in this new First Division A season following a win, draw and loss so far to date at their Guldensporenstadion which has given the hosts an indifferent start to their campaign at home.
An opening day 3-1 defeat at home to Waasland-Beveren was a disastrous start to Kortijk’s season but the hosts then put together a four-match unbeaten run which included three wins (two of which came away from home at Gent 2-1 and Cercle Brugge 1-0), while a 3-0 home win over Excel Mouscron was a welcome opening home win for the hosts.
However, results at home haven’t always been forthcoming for Kortrijk who have picked up just three victories from their last 12 matches at the Guldensporenstadion, while previous exchanges against Antwerp have resulted in Kortrijk failing to win any of the last four meetings which includes losing their last two matches on the trot at home against the visitors.
Antwerp Preview – Can Antwerp build on previous success?
A 4th place finish at the end of last season’s First Division A’s campaign was a fantastic return for Antwerp as they edged out the likes of Standard Liege, Mechelen, Genk and Anderlecht for the final European spot and was richly deserved for a consistent season.
Antwerp lost just two of their final 16 matches at the end of last season and it was this solid and consistent form which earned the visitors a top four finish with their only losses during this sequence being away defeats at Club Brugge and Standard Liege.
However, there’s still plenty of room for improvement away from home as Antwerp’s form hasn’t been the model of consistency compared to that of form at home as they’ve lost four of their last six on the road but they did manage a 3-2 win at Sint-Truiden last time out on their travels.
