Kortrijk Preview – Can Kortrijk build on their first win of the season last week?

It was an 11th placed finish for Kortrijk last season – a position they were never in danger of being relegated and also well off the pace for challenging for Europe. It’s something they will hope to improve on this season but it’s been two contrasting results and performances to get themselves started. Their opening game ended in a 3-1 loss at home to Waasland-Beveren who finished bottom of the table in the previous campaign. Somewhat surprisingly, Kortrijk responded with an excellent 2-1 win away to Gent who have endured a terrible start to their own season.

With a visit to the champions Club Brugge next week then this is a game that Kortrijk will be looking at and hoping to collect their first home three points of the season. The defeat to Waasland-Beveren was their third straight defeat at home and they lost seven in total last season. That’s an area they will be looking to improve on in this campaign you feel.

If they can get the victory then that trip to Brugge next week may just not be quite as ominous.

Eupen Preview – Are Eupen capable of bouncing back from heavy defeat at home to the champions?

Eupen come into this game as one of seven teams who are still looking for their first win in this season’s Belgian top-flight. 13th last season, they are likely going to be involved in events closer to the bottom than the top but will be desperate for that first three points. As always in a new season, the longer the search goes the more difficult it becomes and confidence begins to fade.

A 1-1 draw away to Leuven on the opening weekend was followed by a 4-0 thrashing at home to Club Brugge. There’s clearly no disgrace in that considering the differences in resources between the two but it’s not what you want to be on the receiving end of so early on in the season.

The challenge for Eupen is bouncing back from that and attempting to do so at the first time of asking. Although they lost nine away games in the previous season, Eupen did pick up four victories. They are clearly set up to have a go away from home and that’s shown by their concession of 32 goals in 15 away matches. That was a joint-league high for most goals conceded on the road.

Considering there was just three points between the teams last season there’s clearly not much to separate them – their previous meetings are also an indication of this. Rather than pick a winner I think both teams to score is the safest selection. Six of the last eight meetings have featured this providing some confidence to the bet.
