Without question, this Quarter Final match at the World Matchplay Darts on Thursday is a surprise one.

The unseeded Callan Rydz is looking for a place in the Semi Final at the expense of Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski.

Ratajski is the 13th seed at the tournament and there’s a huge opportunity for someone to take here.

Krzysztof Ratajski Preview – Ratajski to continue his Winter Gardens journey?

Krzysztof Ratajski kicked off this campaign with a comfortable 10-4 victory over Brendan Dolan.

That put him through to a match against Luke Humphries, who had caused a big First Round upset by knocking out 4th seed James Wade.

Ratajski dampened the threat of Humphries and moved past the Englishman 11-5.

So that puts “The Polish Eagle” back into the Quarter Finals of this tournament, which is as far as he got last year.

This is just the third appearance in the main draw of the World Matchplay Darts for him.

2021 has been a decent year for the Polish player. He finished at the Quarter Final stage at both the PDC World Championships and the UK Open.

In the match outright for this Quarter Final match Krzysztof Ratajski is a quote of 4/11* (odds recorded 21:19 GMT on July 21st, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Our betting prediction:

Ratajski didn’t get too far in Players Championships events played this month and didn’t really face anyone of note either.

He does come into this match as the favourite, however.

A Ratajski -3.5 handicap is a quote of even money for World Matchplay Darts betting* (odds recorded 21:19 GMT on July 21st, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

This will be the first time that he faced Rydz before. He could have his work cut out given what his opponent has pulled off so far at this event.

Callan Rydz Preview – Can Rydz reach the semi finals?

This has already been a remarkable run of form in Blackpool from Callan Rydz.

The 23-year-old only started his PDC career in 2019 and this is his debut at the World Matchplay.

But “The Riot” has made a huge splash.

In the opening round, he was up against 12th seed Glen Durrant and posted a 1–6 victory.

Then it was a match against former World Champion Rob Cross in the Second Round.

Rydz dug deep there to pull out an 11-8 victory.

Interestingly he has finished his two matches at the World Matchplay with a lower three-dart average than the players he has beaten.

So that does suggest at least, there could be more to come from him.

For this Quarter Final match, Rydz is a quote of 11/5 in the match outright* (odds recorded 21:19 GMT on July 21st, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Callan Rydz has written a good story for himself so far in Blackpool, can he write another chapter?

There was a little hint in his form this month at Players Championship events that he was going to get this far.

In his other two big tournaments this year, he suffered a Second Round exit at the World Championships but did reach the Fifth Round of the UK Open.

He claimed his first Pro Tour title earlier this year with a victory at Players Championship 2 back in February.

Krzysztof Ratajski vs Callan Rydz Betting Advice

This is just a fascinating match. Ratajski is the clear favourite according to the bookmakers.

But he has had a much easier run to this stage of the competition than his opponent has.

With no head to head form, this is a really tricky call.

But it’s a Rydz +2.5 handicap at 11/10* (odds recorded 21:19 GMT on July 21st, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Key Facts – Krzysztof Ratajski vs Callan Rydz Betting Tip

  • Krzysztof Ratajski lost in the Quarter Finals last year
  • Krzysztof Ratajski has not played Callan Rydz before
  • Callan Rydz is in his World Matchplay debut

Credit is due to the youngster, who has taken his chances against Durrant and Cross so far, even without the heavy scoring.

His confidence has to be growing and last year’s World Matchplay was won by a debutant (Dimitri Van den Bergh).

Taking a chance on young Rydz at 11/5 could be the option* (odds recorded 21:19 GMT on July 21st, 2021 at Ladbrokes).
