Big chance for Wilson

In his first-round match, Kyren Wilson was up against fellow Englishman Jack Lisowski. That was expected to be quite the exciting battle between two of the younger players on the circuit, both of which have tremendous potential. As it turned out, Wilson found the going pretty easy with a 6-2 victory recorded.

It was a great performance from him as well, because Wilson had lost the opening two frames, before stunning his opponent with six on the bounce. This is only the fourth appearance at the Masters for Wilson, who was a surprise finalist in 2017 on just his second attempt.

Either side of that there has been first-round exits at the tournament from him. This is a big chance for him with the draw situated the way that it is. Can he roll forward with that confidence from such a good opening fixture?

Key-Facts – Kyren Wilson vs Stuart Bingham

  • Wilson fought back to beat Jack Lisowski in the first round
  • Wilson’s best effort at the Masters was a 2017 Final, Bigham’s a semi final that year
  • Bingham beat 2nd see Mark Williams in the opening round

Bingham upsets Mark Williams to progress

Stuart Bingham, who is ranked 14th in the world at the moment was an underdog for his opening match against former champion Mark Williams. Bingham showed great composure to fight back from 2-1 down to win five frames on the bounce and put himself through to the quarter-finals.

Just once before has Bingham made it past the first round of the Masters. That was in 2016 when he was stopped at the semi-final stage. Will history repeat and at least see Bigham get back to the final four?

That is what is at stake here on Friday night. It hasn’t been the most productive of seasons from the Englishman. In his six ranking tournaments, this year has only hit the quarter-finals once. But the bookies have remained cautious on him at even money* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on January 16th, 2020 at 3:37 pm)

Kyren Wilson v Stuart Bingham Prediction and tip

Once Wilson got himself up and going against Lisowski in the first round, he wasn’t holding back. But then his performance has to be measured against a really poor performance from his opponent in that picture, who just faded away the longer the match went on.

Bingham did well against World Number 2 Mark Williams and because of those things, this could be close. Wilson does go as the favourite as he looked bristling with confidence and is at 11/10 for an under 2.5 frame winning margin.* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on January 16th, 2020 at 3:37 pm)
