Kyrgyzstan are joint bottom of Group C with tonight’s opponents Philippines with both teams yet to get off the mark so far in this tournament, sitting on zero points.
Kyrgyzstan have been handed back-to-back defeats so far in the group stages as they’ve fallen to losses against the top two teams, China and South Korea, losing 2-1 and 1-0 respectively, but they do have a chance of redeeming themselves here and finishing above the Philippines in Group C.
Although their Asian Cup will be over after tonight’s encounter, Kyrgyzstan have registered recent wins against Syria, Malaysia, Jordan and Palestine over the past 3 months or so, and these wins should still give them confidence of getting a result in this final group match on Wednesday night.

Philippines have also tasted defeat in their first two group matches with defeats to South Korea 1-0 but also a heavy 3-0 loss to China, and although they’ve held the upper hand over tonight’s opponents Kyrgyzstan in recent times, winning both of their previous encounters, these matches were played over 2 years ago.
The Philippines’ early losses in this Asian Cup have also been an extension of what’s happened prior to the tournament as they’ve suffered three defeats beforehand; losses to Vietnam three times on the trot wasn’t ideal preparation for this tournament, losing 2-1, 2-1 and 4-2 respectively.
Previous honours against Kyrgyzsytan obviously go with Philippines, but in recent times, their opponents seem to have made steps forward while there are question marks over the Philippines defence, not least after their 3-0 mauling at the hands of China last time out in Group C.
