Latvia Preview – Can Latvia go a step better at home?
Latvia and Andorra have once again been placed in Group 1 of this year’s Nations League campaign in League D and they finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively in the previous competition, but Latvia will be hoping that their win over Austria last time out in competitive international football will give them an edge here.
Both Latvia and Andorra drew four and lost the other two of their group matches in the previous Nations League, but Latvia edged 3rd spot on goal difference, and although Latvia had to endure a wretched Euro qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of Group G, the hosts did finish on a positive note.
Latvia secured a 1-0 home win against the Group G runners-up, Austria, in the final round of group matches and they also hold a solid record against Thursday’s opponents, Andorra, as well as the hosts are unbeaten in each of the previous six meetings, winning four of these.
Andorra Preview – Can Andorra spring a surprise in Riga?
Although they ended up finishing bottom of Group 1 in the previous Nations League campaign, Andorra fared marginally better in the subsequent European Championship qualifiers as they finished second from bottom in Group H above the bottom nation, Moldova.
Andorra collected four points in their Euro qualifying campaign thanks to a 1-0 home win against Moldova and a point on the road with a 2-2 draw at Albania, but results away from home have been dismal to say the least.
The visitors are without an away win from their last eight outings on their travels which includes six defeats and also failing to score in seven of these eight trips too, and this could be their downfall in the outcome of this upcoming clash against Latvia.
