Latvia and Malta go head-to-head at the Daugava Stadium in Riga in UEFA Nations League action on Tuesday. Faroe Islands currently lead the way in League D, Group 1, with the Latvians in second on three points and the Maltese in third with just two points to their name. Who will come out on top in the Latvian capital in midweek? We have the latest odds and predictions.

Latvia Preview – Can the Latvians pick up first win?

Latvia kicked off their 2020-21 Nations League campaign with a 0-0 draw with Andorra at the Daugava Stadium last month. A few days later, Dainis Kazakevic’s men battled to a 1-1 draw with Malta in Ta’ Qali.

Latvia then picked up their third successive draw in the Nations League last time out. A goal from Janis Ikaunieks gave 11 Wolves an early lead in Torshavn, but Faroe Islands managed to equalise almost instantly. The matchup last Saturday ended in a fair 1-1 draw.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
5/4

As Kazakevic’s troops look for promotion to Nations League C, they could really do with maximum points from this home fixture. With Faroe Islands to come at home in their penultimate game next month, victory on Tuesday will set them up nicely for their two remaining fixtures. Can the Latvians make home advantage count in midweek?

Malta Preview – Maltese to leave Riga with nothing to show for their efforts?

Devis Mangia’s Malta have taken just two points from a possible nine thus far. Ahead of this round of fixtures, the Maltese are five points behind leaders Faroe Islands. They are also level on points with bottom side Andorra.

Malta were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller against Faroe Islands in their Nations League opener last month. However, they have battled to back-to-back draws since then. The Falcons drew 1-1 with Latvia at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali on matchday two before drawing 0-0 with the Andorrans at the Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella last weekend.

Mangia’s men would love to pick up their first win of the campaign on Tuesday. However, the Knights of Malta head to the Latvian capital as the big underdogs, with the bookies pricing them at 17/4 to get the win.

Latvia vs Malta Betting Advice

The 1-1 draw between the pair in September was the first meeting since they went head-to-head in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying. Latvia beat Malta 2-0 both home and away in that qualifying campaign.

Key Facts – Latvia vs Malta Betting Tip

  • Latvia are unbeaten in three against Malta, winning two and drawing one
  • The Maltese have not beaten the Latvians since February 1998
  • Latvia have drawn all three of their Nations League matches thus far

With this one taking place in Riga, Latvia should have the edge on home soil. Having said that, Malta are fighting for their lives, and we fancy them to get on the scoresheet at the Daugava Stadium. Put some money on the home win and both teams to score at the tasty odds of 4/1.

There is also good value in the home team to be winning at half time and full time at 7/4.
