The Biancocelesti had only lost two matches all season (26 games) up until the league was suspended in early March, but have lost three of five (W2 L3) since lockdown was lifted whilst claiming just six of fifteen points. It would appear Sassuolo (10th – W11 D7 L12) hasn’t quite given up the ghost of trying to sneak into a Europa League position before the season is done. A disappointing return of two points from three games once Serie A was allowed to resume last month seemed to have scuppered their plans of a top-seven finish, however a subsequent run of three straight victories has hauled the Black and Greens back into contention.
All three recent successes were hard-earned, overcoming Fiorentina (1-3) and and Bologna (1-2) on the road either side of a thrilling 4-2 win over Lecce back home in Emilia-Romagna.
