Preview: Having stifled the Serie A leaders last time out, Torino will set out to upset another of Italy’s elite when they visit the Stadio Olimpico. Can the visitors secure a result similar to that of last season’s 0-0 draw in this fixture or will Lazio‘s recent momentum propel them to three vital points?

Lazio – Eagles soaring in pursuit of UEL football?

There are sub plots everywhere you look in Serie A. Much of the focus will naturally sway towards the battle at the very top, but there is an engrossing scrap unfolding for fifth and the one route into next season’s Europa League. Roma currently hold all the aces. However Lazio, two points back in sixth, are stalking ominously and primed to capitalise on any missteps from their Rome rivals over the coming weeks.

Indeed, Maurizio Sarri’s charges are seeing out what is left of the campaign with serious intent. Their impressive 4-1 victory away to Genoa last time out earning them a fourth win in five (L1) as Ciro Immoble moved into the outright lead in the scoring charts with his second hat-trick of 2021-22. Moreover, those strikes took his team’s tally in Serie A for the season to 64, with only Inter (65) plundering more.

Key Stat: Lazio won for the 16th time in Serie A in 2021-22 with their 4-1 trouncing of Genoa in the previous round. Of those wins, 14 featured at least three goals in the match.

Torino – Goals and the Granata just don’t go?

Il Toro supplied the latest twist in this topsy-turvy title race in Italy, holding leaders AC Milan to a goalless draw in Turin last Sunday. It was another commendable showing defensively from Ivan Juric’s men, who have now conceded only twice across the past five matches despite facing both Milanese outfits. Unfortunately, though, this staunch rearguard action hasn’t led to an improvement in actual results.

Although they aren’t being blown away, a return of one win in their last ten league games (D5 L4) is a concern ahead of another daunting assignment. Particularly as they don’t tend to grab a lot of goals on their travels. In fact, with eight coming from 15 away matches so far, they are easily the lowest away scorers in Serie A this term. Finding the net no more than once in all but one of 15 away league games in 2021-22.

Key Stat: Torino didn’t manage a goal in 53% (8/14) of their completed Serie A fixtures this season. Unsurprisingly then, the majority of their away defeats were to nil (six of eight), and these includes visits to AC Milan, Inter, Napoli and Roma.

Lazio Vs Torino Betting Advice

Each of the last two Serie A meetings between the sides has ended all-square, with goals few and far between in last season’s clash in Rome (0-0) but also this season’s reverse fixture in Turin (1-1). Could Lazio be about to rip up the script though? The Biancocelesti are the form team of the pair, winning four of their last five while scoring plenty in an effort to keep the pressure on Roma for fifth spot.

Lazio Vs Torino – Key Facts:

  • After winning three consecutive Serie A matches between these teams, Lazio were forced to settle for a draw the last two times (0-0 at home in May 2021, 1-1 away in September 2021).
  • Saturday’s hosts are the form side though, having picked up 12 points from their last five games (W4 L1). Torino, meanwhile, are coming off one win in ten (D5 L4).
  • There has been Over 2.5 Goals in five of Lazio’s past six Serie A matches. However, four of Torino’s last five went Under 1.5, while only two of their last ten saw Over 2.5.

This season, a staggering 87% of Torino’s away league games went Under 2.5 Goals. Moreover, they are the only side in Italy’s top tier yet to hit double figures on the road, averaging 0.53 across their 15 said fixtures. Lazio have won ‘to nil’ seven times in 2021-22, and these include five of their last seven victories. Meanwhile Torino have tasted defeat without scoring seven times away from home.
