Lazio Preview – Progress in Europe catalyst for upturn in league form?
Having lost their latest Serie A home fixture 3-1 to Udinese, making it one win and five points from five games at the Stadio Olimpico this season, it was vitally important that Lazio (W5 D2 L3) responded next time out. A 2-1 win away to newly-promoted Spezia meant they achieved that particular objective, but it was another unconvincing display from Simone Inzaghi and his team who still languish down in seventh place.

The foundations are in place for Hellas Verona (W4 D4 L2) to enjoy another stellar league campaign this season, building on the ninth place finish they attained in 2019/20 on their return to Serie A following a one-term absence. Just two defeats thus far – 1-0 vs Parma & 0-2 vs Sassuolo – is fewer than Napoli and Lazio have managed, while a win over the latter on Saturday will see them leapfrog the men from the Eternal City.
Verona begin Matchday 11 in eighth, ten points clear of the relegation zone and only one shy of Lazio, who they face next having gone the last nine Serie A meetings without registering victory since a 4-1 success on their own patch in 2013.
