Leeds United showed great character by coming from a goal behind away at Cambridge United in the third round of the FA Cup as they eventually overcame their League Two opponents with a 2-1 win to send them into the next round.
Leeds take on Derby County next in a Championship clash on Friday night at Elland Road with the west Yorkshire outfit on a decent run of form which has seen them go six matches without defeat in al competitions, which includes league wins over Reading, Brentford, Preston North End and Rotherham United.
Leeds’ overall home record stands at 8-2-3 18/9 and this includes winning their last four on the trot on home turf in addition to keeping clean sheets in all of these victories. Leading goalscorer Wood (13 goals) should return to the starting line-up here after being rested on the bench for the cup game.
Visitors Derby County crashed to a 3-0 defeat away at Norwich City in the Championship prior to their triumphant third round FA Cup win away at Premier League West Brom, although wins over teams in the Premier League are now taken with a slight pinch of salt due to the league taking precedent over the cup nowadays.
Nevertheless, Derby make the trip north on the back of just one defeat from their last 11 matches overall in the English second tier, although there still appears to be further attention required to Derby’s results away from home as The Rams’ away record stands at a slightly disappointing 5-3-4 12/13.
This is likely to be a close encounter, but I’ll back Leeds with the handicap here.
