It’s a battle between two promoted teams as Leeds take on Fulham at Elland Road. Both teams are looking for their first points after opening day defeats.

Leeds United Preview – Can Leeds build on good performance last week to register first top-flight win since April 2004?

As good as Leeds performance was in defeat to Liverpool last weekend, there was very little surprise at how Marcelo Bielsa’s men conducted themselves. It was a display full of attacking intent and looking to pressure their opponents into mistakes with a hugely intensive press. Some will say they were naive and plenty will suggest that the players will suffer from Bielsa fatigue later in the season.

That may be true but one thin is for certain – Leeds have already shown how good an addition they will be to the Premier League after 16 years away.

Rodrigo was the much heralded big-signing for Leeds and although it was his rash tackle which gave Liverpool a second penalty, the signing of the Spanish national team’s first choice striker is a big statement of intent. And there are likely to be more new faces joining him in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
Considering Leeds face a Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United and then Manchester City in their next two games, this is a game they will be targeting three points from to ensure they get off the mark early.

Fulham Preview – Are Fulham capable of bouncing back after heavy home defeat to Arsenal?

Fulham’s relegation two years ago was mainly due to their awful defensive record which seen them concede 81 goals in their 38 matches that season. It was a campaign which also seen them sack two managers but settling on Scott Parker on a permanent basis was key to them coming straight back up after only one season in the Championship. Parker will be concerned with how his team coped with Arsenal in a 3-0 defeat last week, however.

The one thing that Fulham have to absolutely be better at this time around is defending and the early evidence is they have a lot of improvement to go.

In contrast to two years ago when they won promotion, Fulham have elected to go with pretty much the same squad that got them up last season. They were one of the biggest spenders that campaign and it just disrupted the whole culture around the club. Parker will be aware that whilst he doesn’t want to go down that route, his current group does need some strengthening.

Fulham did pick up a 1-0 victory in the second round of the EFL Cup, defeating Ipswich away from home. It was notable that loan signing Alphonse Areola started and Aleksandar Mitrovic got the winning goal having been on the bench against Arsenal. Both could feature tomorrow.

Leeds United vs Fulham Betting Advice

The teams shared the spoils in last season’s meetings with both winning their home games. The last time they met each other in the Premier League was Boxing Day in 2003 in a game that Leeds edged. That was, of course, the season Leeds were relegated whilst Fulham finished in the lofty position of ninth.

Both managers will be well aware that the more games pass without picking up that first victory, the worse the omens are.

Key Facts – Leeds United vs Fulham Betting Tip

  • Leeds went down 4-3 at the home of the champions last weekend after a 16 year absence from the Premier League
  • Fulham were well beaten in their opening match, bringing back painful memories of their relegation campaign in 2018/19
  • The last time these teams met in the Premier League was on Boxing Day 2003 – Leeds won 3-2

Leeds were comfortable 3-0 winners when the teams met at Elland Road last season. There will only be a couple of changes either side to those teams. Bielsa’s team were also 12 points clear of their rivals at the end of the campaign. They may not be directly related to tomorrow’s game but it’s enough for me. Back the home team to get three points.
