Reading could not buy a league win for love nor money at the start of the year. After beating Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage on New Year’s Day, which was their fourth successive league win, the Royals went seven Championship matches without victory, drawing four and losing three.
Last weekend, though, Reading put that poor run to bed with a much-needed win against Sheffield Wednesday. The Berkshire club were by far the better team at Hillsborough, with Yakou Meite, George Puscas and Sam Baldock scoring in a resounding 3-0 win. On the whole, it’s been another disappointing campaign for the Royals, who have spent all season in the bottom half of the Championship table. Still, Mark Bowen’s boys will be hoping to finish with a flourish. At the time of writing, Reading are 15th on 42 points, 11 points away from the top six.
