Preview: Elland Road has served Leicester City well in recent times. When including last season’s 4-1 romp in South Yorkshire, the Foxes have won on four of their past five league visits, and could record three straight league wins away to Leeds for the first time in their history on Sunday.

Leeds – Whites not matching up to last season’s exploits?

After so long away from the Premier League, a ninth place finish on their long awaited return felt more than respectable last season. The aim heading into this season would have been to possibly kick on. However, ten games in and with four fewer points (10) and half as many wins (2) as they had at this same stage last time around, merely retaining the club’s top-flight status already appears their primary objective.

The Whites would pick up their second victory of the campaign last time out at Carrow Road. A fourth goal of the season from Raphinha coupled with a second strike in as many matches from Rodrigo, who continues to deputise for the injured Patrick Bamford, the club’s leading marksman from last season, wrapping up a 2-1 win over bottom side Norwich that was a lot closer than some might have envisaged.

With their only other win coming against Watford, Leeds are still to beat a team that wasn’t promoted from the Championship last term. That game also stands out for several other reasons, though: as well as being their only victory at Elland Road in 2021-22 (D2 L2), it remains their sole clean sheet of the season. Unsurprisingly then, all but three Leeds Premier League games has featured both teams scoring.

Leicester – Foxes remain defensively fragile?

Brendan Rodgers saw his team drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table following last week’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the King Power Stadium. A scoreline that appeared to flatter them when watching the game at the time. However, an xGF of 2.09 was twice that of the Gunners who had raced into an early 2-0 lead, then sat back and allowed the profligate Foxes to rack up the chances.

That Leicester couldn’t find a way past Aaron Ramsdale in the Arsenal goal was surprising, though, as they had been in decent scoring form. Unbeaten in four Premier League games beforehand (W2 D2), Rodgers had seen his side notch at least twice in each of these fixtures, including a memorable four goal haul in victory against Man Utd. Instead, a lot of their issues this season reside up the other end of the pitch.

Since opening with a 1-0 victory over Wolves, the Foxes have gone nine league outings without a clean sheet, with only Newcastle (10) and Watford (20) currently on a longer run. This would suggest any repeat of last season’s win in this fixture would have to be achieved the hard way. Which they are more than capable, having found the back of the opposing net in their last 12 Premier League away games.

Leeds Vs Leicester Betting Advice

There hasn’t been a drawn meeting between these sides in four league and cup matches, and only two across their previous eight league encounters. And yet separating them has proven difficult even for bookmakers, with Leicester marginal favourite to land their fifth win in six league visits to Elland Road having ran out emphatic 4-1 victors on their most recent trip to West Yorkshire.

Leeds Vs Leicester – Key Facts:

  • The away team on the day prevailed both times these teams met in last season’s Premier League, Leicester running out 4-1 victors at Elland Road last November.
  • Jamie Vardy scored the third in that particular outing and has now found the net in each of his last five Premier League away matches played in Yorkshire.
  • Expect both teams to enjoy playing against the other meanwhile. The pair have recorded just one clean sheet apiece in ten Premier League games so far this season.

Whatever the outcome, those banking on clean sheets materialising could be in for disappointment. Both teams come into Sunday’s game having recorded one defensive shutout in their ten league games thus far, while both share a 70% strike rate when it comes to both teams scoring. Unsurprisingly, that particular bet is a little on the short side at 6/10, but can be boosted to 16/5 when including the draw.
