Leeds – Elland Road to claim another big-name victim?

Marcelo Bielsa provided an honest assessment of how his players performed last time out, claiming a 2-0 loss was ‘fair’ after seeing his team well beaten on the South Coast by Brighton. Leeds (W14 D5 L15), who mustered only two shots on target at the Amex, have now managed one goal while failing to win their last three games (D2 L1) but can still finish in the top-half should they end the campaign with a flourish.

Trips to Burnley and Southampton are still to come, followed by a home meeting with West Brom on the final day of the season. Before any of those, though, the Whites welcome a Tottenham side still in the hunt for the Champions League places. However, Leeds had been in encouraging form prior to the Brighton defeat that ended a run of six games unbeaten (W3 D3), in particular here in West Yorkshire.

The last visiting team to depart Elland Road, where only seven sides boast a better record in 2020/21 than Bielsa’s men (W6 D5 L6), were Aston Villa on 27 February. Since then, however, they have taken points off of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd – conceding a solitary goal in holding three of the current top-seven sides to low-key draws – whilst also condemning Sheffield United to a 2-1 defeat.

Tottenham – Can Mason rectify away slump?

Although the response was nonetheless positive, a 4-0 rout of already relegated Sheffield United is nothing to get carried away about, as Tottenham (W16 D8 L10) bounced back emphatically from their pitiful showing in the EFL Cup final. It was Ryan Mason’s second win in three games as interim manager, while a hat-trick for Gareth Bale should do his confidence the world of good in these final four fixtures.

Following Saturday’s visit to Elland Road, Spurs welcome Aston Villa and Wolves to North London prior to facing Leicester at the King Power Stadium on the final day. In reality, they will have to win all of these encounters to stand any chance of catching fourth-placed Chelsea – five points better off – but also West Ham, who climbed two points clear in fifth spot following victory over Burnley on Monday.

A 2-1 win against Southampton in Mason’s first game in charge preceded the routine victory over the league’s bottom club, meaning Spurs have won more league games in their last two outings than they did in their previous five fixtures in the competition (W1 D2 L2). The outlook is a little less rosy on the road, however, having won only twice in the last eight (D2 L4) away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Leeds Vs Tottenham Betting Advice

Last week saw Leeds concede more than once in a Premier League game for the first time in seven matches, a 2-0 defeat to Brighton halting a six game unbeaten run which included creditable showings against Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd. All three were at Elland Road, where Marcelo Bielsa’s side are unbeaten in four and lost only once in seven, so are primed to make life difficult for Ryan Mason and Tottenham.

Leeds Vs Tottenham – Key Facts:

  • After they lost 3-0 in North London earlier in the campaign, Leeds have now failed to win the previous six meetings with Tottenham in the Premier League (D1 L5).
  • Leeds are in formidable form here at Elland Road, though, with one loss in seven (W3 D3) and the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd coming unstuck here recently.
  • Tottenham continue to frustrate on the road meanwhile. After back-to-back 2-2 draws, Spurs have now won only twice in their last eight Premier League away games (D2 L4).

Tottenham will be seeking a third straight league win, but have won once on their travels in nine, drawing their latest two away outings 2-2 with Everton and Newcastle. It is absolutely a must-win game for them. However Leeds have their own aspirations, a top-half finish, and are hopeful of having midfield metronome Kalvin Phillips available. With their defensive improvements, I can see the home side getting something.
