The early kick-off in the Premier League brings us Leicester City taking on Stoke City at the King Power Stadium with the hosts looking for a change in fortunes following back-to-back defeats away from home at Everton and Manchester City.
The latter ended in a 5-1 thrashing after holding the title holders-to be 1-1 at half-time, but The Citizens moved through the gears in the second half to ease to all three points in the end. Nevertheless, Leicester got a point in a 1-1 draw with a rejuvenated Swansea City, and The Foxes head into this clash with a four match unbeaten run on home turf.
Recent wins over Huddersfield Town and Watford have helped lift the hosts away from the relegation danger below them, and they’ll be eyeing off another three points here today against a struggling Stoke City outfit.
Even with losing creative midfielder Arnautovic to West Ham during the summer transfer window, i don’t think anyone could have envisaged Stoke City sitting in the bottom three of the Premier League come February, but here they are, two points adrift of safety ahead of their trip to Leicester for this lunchtime kick-off.
Former manager, Mark Hughes, also departed due to a string of disappointing results a short while ago, and although The Potters moved swiftly to replace him with former Aston Villa boss, Paul Lambert, Stoke’s results haven’t really improved much.
The visitors have won just once in their last eight matches, or just twice in their last 12 if you prefer, and they’re now fighting a desperate relegation battle to keep their top flight status intact. An away record of 1-3-9 11/32 tells you all you need to know as to why they find themselves in this predicament, along with losing six of their last seven away matches of course.
