Leicester City Preview – Can Foxes rediscover past form?

The Foxes are presented with an opportunity to not only reduce the deficit between them and second place but to add to their buffer over those currently in pursuit of a top-four finish, as they prepare for the challenge of facing Man City at their King Power Stadium. It was a fixture Leicester (3rd – W15 D5 L6) came out on top in last season, as goals from Marc Albrighton and Ricardo Pereira sealed a shock 2-1 victory under Claude Puel.

Brendan Rodgers is, of course, the man now in charge of first-team affairs and has drastically improved the club’s fortunes. The team won 12 of its first 16 league fixtures of this season and were, at one stage, touted as potential title challengers. Their form has nosedived ever since losing 3-1 at The Etihad in December, though, as last week’s 0-0 draw at Wolves made it three wins in ten (W3 D3 L4) during which time a formerly watertight defence kept a mere two clean sheets.

It is perhaps no coincidence that Leicester’s results dipped at the same time their top scorer has struggled for form and fitness. Jamie Vardy last scored a goal in the league in that reverse fixture in Manchester, some eight league games ago, allowing others to close in on the Golden Boot. Not that his barren patch has unduly hampered his team-mates when playing at home recently, with six goals scored across the last two said matches with West Ham (4-1) and Chelsea (2-2).

Leicester City & Both To Score

Manchester City Preview – Another positive response from beleaguered Citizens?

By beating West Ham 2-0 at The Etihad on Wednesday, in a fixture that was rearranged due to adverse weather conditions, Manchester City (2nd – W17 D3 L6) would at least deliver a positive riposte on the field to what has been a dramatic and tumultuous week off it. A goal and assist from Kevin De Bruyne ensuring The Citizens went into the weekend with a four point cushion over the team immediately below them, which just so happens to be their upcoming opponents.

Man City produced a dominant performance when these teams last met back in December, generating more than 3xG to overwhelm Leicester in Manchester in a 3-1 victory. A fifth win in the past six head-to-head meetings in the league. Coupled with their recent run of form, which has seen them claim maximum points from five of their last seven league fixtures (W5 D1 L1), should bode well for further spoils on Saturday.

Yet these are uncertain times. The club are facing expulsion from Europe for the next two seasons, something that is bound to be on the minds of the players, while it also ramps up the pressure ahead of Wednesday’s mouthwatering clash away to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Some good news, though, is that Pep Guardiola appears to have a near-full complement of first-team players to choose from, with only Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane still out injured.

Leicester City Vs Manchester City Betting Advice

For Man City, who are out of the running to defend their league title, this weekend’s trip to The King Power has to feature low on their list of imminent priorities. Especially when a huge encounter with Real Madrid awaits on Wednesday, followed by the final of the EFL Cup next Sunday. Five wins in seven league games is difficult to argue with, of course, but their most recent two outings on the road – beating Sheff Utd 1-0 and losing 2-0 to Tottenham – saw them net only once.

Leicester City Vs Manchester City – Key Facts

  • Leicester have lost two of 13 Premier League home games in 2019-20 (W8 D3 L2).
  • Man City would succumb to six losses already this season, which is two more than last season, with four occurring away from home (W8 D1 L4).
  • The head-to-head record in recent seasons reads favourably in Man City‘s favour, winning five of the past six league encounters – though did lose 2-1 in Leicester in 2018-19.

In terms of recent form, Leicester do fall short having managed three wins from their last ten league encounters (W3 D3 L4). Hardly disastrous. Liverpool would beat them emphatically at home earlier in the campaign but that was one of two defeats at The King Power so far, with their record there (W8 D3 L2) formidable otherwise. Hearing that Wilfred Ndidi will be missing is a blow, however, this does look an extremely tricky fixture for Man City, and at probably an awkward time.
