Leicester City Preview – Can a change of competition bring about an upturn in results for Foxes?

February always looked like being a defining period for Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester City team. With a dramatic downturn in their league performances and results this season meaning there was little chance of qualifying for Europe, cup competitions was their only route back to the Europa League next season and the chance of bringing about some success for the club. Expectations have increased since Rodgers arrived in 2019 and winning the FA Cup last season only added to that.

However, sitting in 11th spot in the Premier League following a draw at home to West Ham at the weekend is another in a list of disappointing results of late. Leicester haven’t won any of their last five with their last victory coming on the 8th of January.

(odds taken 2000 GMT, Tuesday 15 February)

This month seen them contest games in both the FA Cup and this competition. The Foxes failed miserably to defend their domestic trophy, losing 4-1 away to midlands rivals Nottingham Forest meaning they now only have this as a realistic route to Europe. Rodgers is coming under increasing pressure and knows this is a must win tie regardless of him being ignorant to it’s existence when Leicester were eliminated from the Europa League group stages.

A continuing theme of Leicester’s season is the number of goals they concede. The two shipped at the weekend mean they have lost 12 in their last five.

Randers Preview – Will Randers return to competitive action by causing a huge upset?

As tends to be case for Scandinavian teams who qualify for the knockout stages of European competition, they are thrust straight into these ties with no competitive football for weeks beforehand. Their domestic seasons are such that they stop in early winter before restarting in the coming weeks. It can be a hindrance for them but it is one they are used to and Randers travel to England knowing they have to be at their best following a series of friendly games leading up to this.

Their last game was the second leg of a domestic cup tie back in the middle of December which they were eventually knockout out of.

Randers qualified for this following a group stage where they won only once but the four points gained from draws was sufficient for them to finish second behind AZ and more importantly one point above Czech outfit Jablonec. Randers had earlier dropped into the competition having lost in the playoff round of the Europa League against Galatasaray.

Strike duo Alhadji Kamara and Stephen Odey scored twice each in the group stage and will carry most of the threat for them in this game.

Leicester City vs Randers Betting Advice

It may not be the European competition that Leicester wanted to be playing in but it does provide a route to the Europa League group stages for next season for the winner so would be a considerable achievement for a club who are not accustomed to winning trophies. Randers may not be serious contenders to go the whole way but they will be hoping to still have a chance in this tie come the second leg next week.

The visitors will be buoyed by the form that their opponents are in coming into this game, especially the vulnerabilities they have shown in defence.

Key Facts –  Leicester City vs Randers Betting Tip

  • Leicester have not won in their last five games, conceding 12 goals in the process
  • Randers finishing second in the group stage of this competition but won just one match
  • This will be the visitor’s first game a Danish Cup tie on the 12th of December

This is a level up for Randers compared to the teams they faced in the group stage. However, they scored in five of their six matches whilst also netting in both ties against Galatasaray. With Leicester keeping two clean sheets in their last 26 matches in all competitions (they also conceded in each of their six Europa League group matches) both teams to score looks a good option here.
