Leicester City Preview – Can Foxes continue their recent good form to boost hopes of European success?

Brendan Rodgers may not have been immediately aware of what the Europa Conference League was when his team were eliminated from the Europa League in December, but the way things have went for Leicester of late it is very much a competition they will be targeting. Rodgers men failed to get out their section which seen Napoli and Spartak Moscow progress. Combine that with a poor showing domestically where they failed to win a league game until the 1st March and it results in pressure growing on the former Liverpool and Celtic boss.

The Foxes have shown improvement in recent weeks though, winning four of their last five games and scoring 11 goals in the process.

Seven of those came in the two legged tie against Randers in the previous round and as is so often the case, wins in cup competitions can spark a revival in their league form. The return of Jamie Vardy has also helped with that. Their talisman had not played since the 28th of December before returning earlier this month. He could be involved in this game as the competition ramps up.

What is clear whether Leicester are playing in European or domestic football is there tends to be goals in their games. Their eight European matches so far this season are averaging four goals a game.

Rennes Preview – Are Rennes set to extend their unbeaten record in this competition?

Bruno Genesio celebrates a year in charge of Rennes this month and he is overseeing a dramatic improvement. The club are well in the race for Champions League qualification via Ligue 1 – currently sitting in fourth place and just three points off second place Nice. Rennes’ domestic form has been really good of late, too, winning five of their last seven.

With 11 games to go they will be hopeful of continuing their recent run and if not able to finish second then hoping for third place which would see them enter the Champions League qualifiers.

It’s all about European action for now, though, and Rennes looking to continue what has been an excellent campaign in the Europa Conference League. They are unbeaten in eight games, winning six of those and qualifying top of a section which included Leicester’s domestic rivals, Tottenham. They won five of their six group games and won all of their away games in the competition so far.

Gaetan Laborde has been the start for Rennes in Europe. In his first season at the club he has hit five in the competition, that’s in addition to the 11 he has scored in Ligue 1. He’s also hit five in his last seven games so is in excellent form.

Leicester City vs Rennes Betting Advice

It may not have been a priority for either team when they first entered it but both Leicester and Rennes are one tie away from reaching the last eight of a European competition – something that doesn’t come round all that often for either.

Leicester certainly showed the right attitude when easily dispatching Randers but know they will be tested more over the next two legs.

Key Facts –  Leicester City vs Rennes Betting Tip

  • Leicester City are looking for fifth win their last six games in all competitions
  • Rennes are yet to taste defeat in the Europa Conference League, winning six and drawing twice
  • The French outfit faced English opposition in the group stage, topping a section which included Tottenham

I alluded to the number of goals that Leicester both score and concede and that is the route to go here. Seven of Leicester’s eight European matches have ended with both teams scoring and that’s the selection here, too.
