Leicester City Preview – Rodgers knows he needs to harness more from his team?

The Foxes rarely do FA Cup runs, with this a second quarter-final appearance in nine seasons and a first since losing to Chelsea in 2017/18. Manager Brendan Rodgers wasn’t in charge at the time but will nonetheless hope history doesn’t repeat itself when his team entertain Frank Lampard’s men at the King Power Stadium, where a win would send the club through to its first semi-final since 1981/82,

It would be a monumental achievement were Leicester to go all the way to the final itself and subsequently lift the trophy. Despite sitting third in the Premier League standings Rodgers’ side are rated only as fifth favourites, at 12/1 with Bet365, according to the latest outright odds. Those long odds might have something to do with the fact the club have never won this tournament before, or their poor recent run of results.

Back-to-back draws since the Premier League restart, away to Watford (1-1) and against Brighton at home (0-0), are hardly inspiring and mean only two wins recorded across their previous nine matches in all competitions (W2 D4 L3). Among them a slender 1-0 win during the previous round over Birmingham City, having eliminated Wigan (2-0) and Brentford (1-0) earlier in the competition.

Chelsea Preview – Can Lampard build on the midweek success?

In terms of FA Cup pedigree, only a select few clubs can compete with Chelsea who have lifted the trophy on eight occasions, more recently in 2018. Only Man Utd (12) and Arsenal (13) can boast more. So, at odds of 8/1 with Unibet to be crowned champions at the end of this protracted season, there may not be a more attractive proposition than the West Londoners.

There will certainly have been more interest in their price in the aftermath of Thursday’s hugely impressive victory in the league over Man City. It was largely overshadowed by the result confirming Liverpool as Premier League champions, but take nothing away from what was an outstanding team performance; restricting the second best side in the country to precious little whilst offering a constant threat on the break.

Frank Lampard deserves immense credit for midweek. He now has a task on his hands readying a group which is bound to be brimming with confidence, and justifiably so, but did however expend a lot of energy. Especially with Leicester likely to benefit from an additional two days rest. Meanwhile, Chelsea needed to overcome Nottingham Forest (2-0), Hull (1-2) and even the recently crowned English champions, Liverpool, to make it this far.

Leicester City Vs Chelsea Betting Advice

The schedule clearly stands to benefit Leicester more. The Foxes’ goalless draw with Brighton taking place more than 48 hours before Chelsea’s excellent yet absorbing 2-1 victory over Man City. Brendan Rodgers can probably afford to name his strongest line-up therefore, or something very close, whereas Lampard will surely dip into his squad. A squad not exactly shorn of talent, it should be stressed.

Leicester Vs Chelsea – Key Facts

  • Successive draws for Leicester since returning to competitive action earlier this month, whereas Chelsea are on a roll after registering back-to-back victories.
  • A bet on both teams to score would have returned a winner in six of the last eight Premier League games for Chelsea, but only in one of Leicester‘s last six.
  • However, both teams would score on both occasions these sides met during this season’s league campaign – the King Power witnessing a 2-2 stalemate in February.

Since returning to action, Leicester have drawn twice against relegation candidates and looked a shadow of the team who were sensational during the first half of this season. Meanwhile, the relatively quick turnaround works against Chelsea. Both league meetings this season produced scoring draws (1-1 at Stamford Bridge and 2-2 at King Power), so there is value in backing that trend continuing on Sunday.
