Leicester City – Title tile hinges on King Power improvement?

James Maddison continued his excellent form for Leicester (W11 D2 L5) on Saturday by netting the opener in a 2-0 victory over top four hopefuls Southampton at the King Power Stadium. The England midfielder has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since October 2019, having also opening the scoring in their 2-1 away win over Newcastle earlier in the month.

Those results mean The Foxes have gone five league games unbeaten, winning three three and scoring exactly two in all but the 1-1 stalemate at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. A run that begun initially with a thoroughly impressive 2-0 win away at Tottenham. One of two triumphs against London sides this season. Their record at home in such fixtures is rotten, though, losing here to Fulham (1-2) and West Ham (0-3).

Winning matches on their own patch has proven problematic all season. Brendan Rodgers’ side have claimed three fewer wins (W4 D1 L4) while scoring seven fewer goals at the King Power this season, despite playing an equal number of fixtures home and away. Things have picked up more recently, though, losing two of the last four (W2 D1 L1) in a spell which includes a creditable 2-2 draw with Man Utd.

Chelsea – Away form leaves lot to be desired?

Perhaps James Maddison sought inspiration from Saturday’s earlier kick-off? Prior to the Leicester midfielder slamming home the opener in their hard-fought victory over Southampton, Mason Mount was playing the role of match winner in his team’s 1-0 win away to Fulham. That a second win in seven Premier League games (W2 D1 L4) for the side who went top of the table at the beginning of December.

Even with that rather laboured success, with Fulham reduced to ten men for the entirety of the second-half, Chelsea (W8 D5 L5) remain off the pace in seventh, four points behind fourth placed Liverpool. Frank Lampard will nonetheless be pleased to see his team back winning again. That their first on the road in four having lost the previous three at Arsenal, Everton and Wolves.

The clean sheet last time was their fourth of the season away from home, three more than they managed in the whole of 2019/20. It was their third away win to nil of the campaign. All three were against sides currently in the bottom six, so far failing to register an away win against any team ranked 14th or higher (D1 L3). Next up is high-flying Leicester, who they have not beaten away in the last two seasons.

Leicester City Vs Chelsea Betting Advice

A truly rotten winter means Chelsea are playing catch up on the top four as well as the title race, one Leicester are firmly entrenched in after picking up their third win in a five-game unbeaten spell last time out. However, the Foxes have preferred playing on their travels this season, while they have not got the better of Chelsea here at King Power Stadium in their previous seven competitive matches (D4 L3).

Leicester City Vs Chelsea – Key Facts:

  • Since losing 2-0 at home to Everton on 16 December, Leicester are five league games unbeaten (W3 D2). They netted exactly two goals in four of those games.
  • Just two wins from their previous seven Premier League games for Chelsea (W2 D1 L4), who had lost three straight away from home before edging ten-man Fulham last time.
  • Leicester are without a home win against Chelsea in the past seven competitive meetings at King Power Stadium (D4 L3), seeing the last two in the league end in draws.

Frank Lampard’s men were unconvincing last time but picked up a morale-boosting victory away to local rivals Fulham, only their second in the past seven Premier League games. The last time they managed consecutive league wins was November and this could be another situation in which they are left frustrated, having lost three of their previous four away league games. The in form hosts are worth chancing.
