Preview: A 2-0 loss upon visiting the King Power Stadium last season brought an end to Frank Lampard’s time in charge of Chelsea and ushered in a bright new era under Thomas Tuchel. Can the German lead the current Premier League leaders to a first away league win in this fixture since 2017?

Leicester City – Rodgers still searching for defensive solidity?

The Foxes haven’t beaten any team that started the day top of the Premier League since January 1998, and are currently winless across their last sixteen attempts (D2 L14). Yet a meeting with Chelsea, who they have not lost a home league game against in three seasons (W1 D2), having won last season’s corresponding fixture 2-0 at King Power Stadium, perhaps isn’t as formidable as it may seem.

Leicester have already gotten the better of the West London outfit twice in 2021, following up that aforementioned win in the league with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the FA Cup final. Man City didn’t have it all their own way here earlier in the campaign either, while Man Utd were completely outplayed in a stunning 4-2 triumph. So the hosts are evidently capable of raising their game for the big guns.

Defeat to Arsenal in their latest home league outing, however, marked their sole loss across their last six league games (W2 D3). Meanwhile, last week’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road versus Leeds means they have now conceded at least once in all but one of their last seventeen top-flight fixtures. Going ten consecutive Premier League games without a clean sheet since opening 2021-22 with a 1-0 win at home to Wolves.

Chelsea – Blues don’t give much away on the road?

Defeat in this very fixture last term proved a blessing in disguise. Frank Lampard was sacked in the immediate aftermath of that 2-0 scoreline. His replacement, Thomas Tuchel, has since turned a deep and talented squad into European champions and genuine Premier League title contenders. To such an extent that they resume the domestic season three points clear of Man City atop the table.

That is despite failing to beat Burnley at Stamford Bridge before the international break. A game they dominated throughout but only managed to convert one of a handful of gilt-edged opportunities into an actual goal, with Tuchel describing the point the visitors did ultimately earn as “lucky”. Fortunately for the German, star striker Romelu Lukaku has stepped up his efforts for a return to action.

Lukaku sat out the previous three league matches, with Chelsea totaling ten goals in wins over Norwich and Newcastle as well as that draw with Burnley. Even so, the Belgian’s imminent return is a huge boost ahead of a packed winter schedule. Providing additional firepower for side that has won its last three Premier League away games against Brentford, Newcastle and Tottenham by an aggregate of 7-0.

Leicester City Vs Chelsea Betting Advice

Strong starts to the season have been the hallmarks of this Leicester team under Brendan Rodgers. But this hasn’t been the case so far, the Foxes languishing down in 12th place ahead of Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off against the league leaders. It is, however, a fixture Chelsea have struggled in recently, losing both meetings this year and winning none of their previous three played here in the East Midlands in the league.

Leicester City Vs Chelsea – Key Facts:

  • Ten league games down in 2021-22 and Leicester (W4 D3 L4) are already seven points adrift of the top four and eleven points off leaders Chelsea (W8 D2 L1).
  • Leicester come into the game off the back of one loss in their last six league games (W2 D3). Chelsea are unbeaten in five, winning four, and are yet to lose away from home (W4 D1).
  • No more than two goals have been scored in any one fixture between the sides in their past ten league and cup meetings. Leicester are unbeaten in three home league games against Chelsea (W1 D2).

This is a fixture which doesn’t tend to throw up many goals. Eight of the past ten league and cup meetings saw fewer than three goals, including four of the previous five played at the King Power. Meanwhile, Chelsea boast the best defensive record in the division with only one of their four conceded being on the road – a Mo Salah penalty. Leicester have also scored one or none in three of five Premier League home games thus far.
