Preview: In one of those Saturday three o’clock kick-offs that makes you wonder how it wasn’t been deemed worthy for televised viewing, Leicester City will look to put an inconsistent start to the campaign behind them at home to a Manchester United side still enjoying the longest unbeaten away run in the competition’s history.

Leicester City – Inspired Vardy gives Foxes hope?

Brendan Rodgers admitted his side “weren’t playing to our level,” after seeing his side fail to record a win for the fifth league outing in seven this season last time out against Crystal Palace. It was a result made all the more difficult to stomach for the Northern Irishman with his side having established a seemingly commanding 2-0 half-time lead, only to concede twice without reply to draw 2-2 at Selhurst Park.

That is now four league games without a win (D2 L2) – their longest winless spell under Rodgers. Equally as concerning, however, is how they have managed a single clean sheet across their last thirteen matches in the competition. Breached on exactly two occasions in each of the last three (vs Brighton, Burnley and Crystal Palace), they now face a United team with the joint-third highest goal tally.

Leicester, and Rodgers, will feel they hold the aces ahead of this weekend’s fixture though. Their 2-1 victory at Old Trafford in May – albeit against a weakened United side – means they are chasing a third straight head-to-head win, having previously gone thirteen without one versus the Red Devils. Meanwhile, the red-hot Jamie Vardy is looking to score for the fourth league game running.

Manchester United – Long unbeaten away run on the line?

Once again questions are being asked of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and whether he truly is the man to guide the club back to the very top of the English game. With a daunting schedule on the horizon – the next seven league games comprises six opponents who finished in the top seven last season – we may get those answers sooner than expected, beginning with Saturday’s visit to King Power Stadium.

United haven’t won here in their past two visits, following up a 2-2 draw in the league last season with a comprehensive 3-1 defeat in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Yet their record against the Foxes remains exemplary, particularly away from home where they have only tasted defeat once across the last fifteen league visits (W9 D5). We mustn’t also forget they are out to protect their long unbeaten away run.

It has been nearly two years since Solskjaer’s men sustained an away loss in the league and their immediate task will be to extend the longest unbeaten away run in Premier League history, which currently stands at 29 (W19 D10). This season has seen them win two of three road fixtures so far, but they were incredibly fortunate to do so against both West Ham (missed late penalty) and Wolves (much the better side).

Leicester City Vs Manchester United Betting Advice

The Foxes simply haven’t got going this season. Since upsetting Man City to claim the Community Shield in August, Leicester have won three games out of ten in all competitions (D3 L4) and none of the last four in the league – their latest two encounters both ending 2-2, versus Burnley and Crystal Palace. On the other hand, they did push Man City close here in September, succumbing 1-0 to the champions.

Leicester City Vs Manchester United – Key Facts:

  • Although Leicester won the last meeting between the sides – 2-1 at Old Trafford – it is Man Utd who tend to do better in this fixture, avoiding defeat in all but one of their last 15 visits (W9 D5).
  • Neither side is in particularly strong form. Leicester are currently without a win in the league in four (D2 L2) while failed to win either of their last two (D1 L1).
  • Man Utd have a 29-game unbeaten Premier League away run to protect, however, winning two of their three (D1) away league games so far this season.

Man Utd are an upgrade on Leicester’s last four league opponents, but they’ve hardly been firing on all cylinders either. It is two wins from six coming into this weekend and both of those required huge slices of good fortune. Moreover Solskjaer, who must make do without regular centre-backs Rafael Varane and Harry Maguire at the King Power Stadium, has been unable to get the better of Rodgers in their last two duels.
