Leicester – Foxes a lesser beast at King Power?

In the last three seasons, none of the six Premier League meetings between the clubs produced a win for the home side on the day, with Leicester defeated 2-1 at the King Power Stadium by Southampton in each of the last two top-flight campaigns. The most recent of those, in January 2020, came less than three months after The Foxes had inflicted an humiliating 9-0 scoreline upon the Saints at St Mary’s.

All of a sudden those odds-on quotes about a Leicester (W10 D2 L5) victory seem less appealing. Brendan Rodgers’ side will, however, arrive in decent form. They eased past Championship side Stoke in the FA Cup last time out, scoring four without reply and without Jamie Vardy or James Maddison in the side to book a fourth rate date with another team from the English second tier, promotion-chasing Brentford.

Leicester are now five matches unbeaten in all competitions, winning three, since a 2-0 loss here at the King Power to Everton on 20 December. That remains their sole loss across the last seven league games (W4 D2 L1) since the beginning of December, netting at least twice in five of those encounters, though have managed to win only three of eight top-flight fixtures at home all season (W3 D1 L4).

Southampton 2-1 (Correct Score)

Southampton – Can Saints pick up where they left off against champions?

Due to last Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie with Shrewsbury Town being postponed – with the outcome or any rearranged date still to be confirmed – Southampton (W8 D5 L4) have not been seen since the 4 January, when they produced a stunning upset at St Mary’s against Premier League holders Liverpool. It remains to be seen whether the momentum garnered from such a euphoric result has ebbed away.

The Saints were good value for their 1-0 victory over the champions, even if they did ride their luck on more than one occasion – in particular with some contentions refereeing decisions. However, it was another instance of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side struggling to create a great deal. In fact, they boast more points from the last five league games (6 – W1 D3 L1) than goals scored or conceded combined (4 apiece).

These issues in the attacking department have been even more pronounced on the road, with Southampton failing to net more than once in five of their eight Premier League away games in 2020/21. Yet they remain incredibly difficult to get the better of away from home, and are currently seven unbeaten (W3 D4) since losing their opening away fixture of the season 1-0 at Selhurst Park to Crystal Palace.

Leicester City Vs Southampton Betting Advice

Last season’s league meetings could not have been more contrasting as Southampton, beaten so handsomely at home (0-9), came from behind to win 2-1 at King Power Stadium for the second season running. The Saints are now unbeaten in their last four Premier League away matches (W2 D2) against Leicester, who could only muster up two goals across all four encounters.

Leicester City Vs Southampton – Key Facts:

  • The Foxes have conceded the first goal in six of their eight home Premier League games this season, coming back to win only one of these matches (W1 D1 L4).
  • Southampton remain unbeaten in their last seven away Premier League games (W3 D4) since losing their opening fixture of the season 1-0 away to Crystal Palace.
  • The last two Premier League meetings between the sides at King Power Stadium ended 2-1 in favour of the away side, with Southampton unbeaten on their last three visits (W2 D1).

Leicester are sweating over the fitness of Jamie Vardy and James Maddison while Southampton look set to be without Danny Ings. The Saints were already struggling, netting just three in their last five matches, and could once again be reliant on another solid defensive showing after conceding only twice in that same period. Meanwhile, Leicester have scored only 11 of their 31 Premier League goal total in home matches.
