Linlithgow Rose Preview – Can junior outfit Linlithgow cause a big shock and knockout league opposition?

The recently introduced football pyramid in Scotland affords clubs such as Linlithgow Rose more opportunities to compete in the senior Scottish Cup. One of the most famous names in Scottish Junior football – and winners of the Junior Cup on four occasion – Linlithgow are out to continue their good run in this competition. Rose have already won four matches to reach this stage. An away win against Preston Athletic led them to playing Jeanfield Swifts before a testing home tie against Highland League outift Huntly. It was a test they narrowly came through winning 1-0 before a more comfortable 2-0 win away to Stirling University in the previous round.

Due to their participation in the Scottish Cup it has meant Linlithgow’s league form has suffered as a result. Their inconsistencies are there for all to see with five wins and four losses in their opening nine games. Having finished second in the last campaign they will be keen to recapture some of that same consistency but also know the value of a good Scottish Cup run.

Falkirk Preview – Will Falkirk focus on the job at hand and avoid any unwanted cup upset?

This season was expected to be the light after the dark of the previous campaign for Falkirk. Their relegation to League One was a real low point of this club’s history but the response so far this season has not been the one their supporters or many neutrals would have expected. Ray McKinnon was kept on as manager in spite of relegation and backed to bringing in a number of players on Championship wages. The return on that investment host not been forthcoming as the Bairns’ sit in fourth spot following a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Dumbarton at the weekend. That was the final straw for the Falkirk board who decided to act.

McKinnon may well feel hard done by considering the club are only three points off top spit. The expectation at the beginning of the season was much greater than that, though. Falkirk will be led by Lee Miller and David McCracken on a caretaker basis for this game. Miller has come back from playing at Livingston to help a club where he has enjoyed so much success as a player.

Key-Facts – Linlithgow Rose vs Falkirk

Linlithgow Rose v Falkirk Betting Advice

This game will be broadcast on national television which only adds to the expectancy of a potential shock on the cards. Linlithgow are very strong at home losing only one of their last 21 games in all competitions. They also score plenty of goals on their own turf and have hit at least three goals in 14 of those games. The hosts will feel their opponents are coming into this game from a place of vulnerability due to their recent form where they have won only two of their last seven.
Falkirk supporters will hope they get a bounce from having changed their manager and avoid the embarrassment. They are still massive favourites to go through from this tie but it could well be a struggle if they do not get an early goal. I would not put anybody off backing the home team at attractive 10/1 odds. However, the main selection is for both teams to score. Linlithgow carry a huge goal scoring threat and this would be a winning bet in 12 of their last 17 games.
