Liverpool remained top of the Premier League at the end of last week’s top flight action thanks to The Reds recording their fifth straight league win away at Bournemouth 4-0 along with Chelsea helping them out by beating title rivals, Manchester City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool now hold a slender one point margin at the top of the division although this lead may well be eroded by the time they take to the field at Anfield as Manchester City take on Everton in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

This could well be a significant improvement for Liverpool as they chase what has previously been an extremely elusive Premier League title.

Manchester United head into this crucial clash at Liverpool on the back of a 2-1 loss at Valencia during the midweek Champions League, but The Red Devils hold a four match unbeaten run in the Premier League having drawn with Crystal Palace, Southampton and Arsenal – 0-0, 2-2 and 2-2 respectively along with a heavy 4-1 defeat of Fulham last weekend.
United sit in 6th place but find themselves 8 points adrift of 5th placed Arsenal and a massive 16 points off the pace of this afternoon’s hosts, Liverpool. That said, Mourinho loves nothing better than putting one over his old rivals and amidst rumours of a fractured dressing room and fall-outs with players such as Lingaard and Pogba, they can still pose a serious threat here.
The visitors hold an away record of 3-2-3 14/15 that includes just one win from their last five on the road which was a 2-1 win at Bournemouth, but interestingly, 7 of their 8 away matches have seen both teams score – a surprising statistic given Mourinho’s penchant for keeping clean sheets.
