Matchday one of the Champions League group stage continues on Wednesday night with three more English clubs involved, the first being Liverpool when they take on Sevilla at Anfield this evening with the hosts looking to quickly erase their 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City on the weekend.
Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp will be demanding a reaction from Saturday’s landslide defeat, so expect Liverpool to come out of the blocks early in this encounter. Home form has been impressive of late for Liverpool who have notched up four wins on the trot in all competitions, including wins over Crystal Palace and Arsenal in the Premier League, and a 4-2 win over Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-off.
However, we also saw Liverpool’s frail and fragile defending once again on Saturday, and along with failing to keep a single clean sheet in their last four Champions League ties at Anfield, we could see more goals tonight.
Onto Sevilla, and they too are enjoying a solid unbeaten run which has now been extended to seven matches in all competitions, including a Champions League play-off win away at Turkish outfit, Basaksehir, as well as back-to-back La Liga victories over Getafe and Eibar recently.
The Spanish outfit have produced some mixed displays away from home in recent times though in the Champions League as they’ve registered wins at Dinamo Zagreb and the aforementioned Basaksehir, but have also fallen to defeats at Borussia Moenchengladbach and Leicester City.
But with Liverpool’s susceptibility at the back, and the likes of forwards Nolito and Ben Yedder up front, I fancy the visitors could breach the Liverpool defence at least once this evening.
