The biggest game of this weekend’s Premier League action will be the clash between Liverpool and Tottenham at Anfield with both teams vying for all three points as they each look to take a step closer to securing Champions League football next season.
Liverpool are currently sitting in third place but could draw level on points with second placed Manchester United with a win this afternoon. The Reds have won four of their last five with wins over Leicester City, Burnley, Manchester City and Huddersfield Town, but were dealt a shock result at the hands of Swansea City in a 1-0 defeat at the Liberty Stadium recently.
But along with runaway Premier League leaders, Manchester City, Liverpool are the only other team to boast an unbeaten home record to date this season with impressive stats of 7-5-0 25/7. However, a continual fragile defence can sometimes be Liverpool’s undoing, and they’ll be facing one of the league’s most potent strikers today.
Onto Tottenham, and Spurs are also chasing a top four spot as they trail London rivals, Chelsea, by two points, so all three points today would actually see them leapfrog both Chelsea and today’s opponents, Liverpool, into third spot.
Plenty of incentive then for a Spurs outfit who have put together a seven match unbeaten run which includes recent wins over Burnley, Southampton, Swansea City, Everton and most impressive of all, second placed Manchester United.
Following a horrific three-match losing streak away from home with defeats at Manchester United, north London rivals Arsenal and Leicester City, Tottenham have since improved on their travels with wins at Burnley and Swansea, although they did collapse in a heavy 4-1 loss at Manchester City.
Striker Harry Kane though is the best finisher in the Premier League, and if Liverpool allow him any space at all or lose concentration for a second, Kane will punish them.
