Liverpool – Refreshed Mane loves facing Palace?

Top of their domestic league – currently a shared honour with Chelsea and Man United – and Champions League group. It has been a near perfect start to the campaign from Liverpool following their turbulent 2020-21 season and suggests a team approaching something close to the peak of its powers once more. Now unbeaten in any competition since April, the hosts will take some stopping at Anfield this weekend.

In the league, Jurgen Klopp’s side are enjoying the longest current unbeaten run of any side in England’s top four tiers (14 – W11 D3). Chelsea, in a 1-1 draw here last month, are the only team to have prevented the Reds from collecting maximum points this season. Liverpool having otherwise dispatched Burnley, Norwich and recently Leeds with the minimal amount of fuss – and all whilst not conceding.

Sadio Mane hit the headlines last time due to his sheer weight of involvement in proceedings, attempting more shots at Elland Road than the entire Leeds team. The Senegalese would eventually get his goal for his second of the season. Interestingly, he has scored in each of his last eight appearances against Palace. With the most shots taken in the league in 2021-22 so far (19), he will get chances to make it nine.

Crystal Palace – Edouard done enough to earn first start?

The Eagles are soaring. After failing to score across their opening three games of the season, they have now scored five in the last two with three coming in last week’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham. But they are expected to be brought back down to earth with aplomb this weekend, tasked with reining in a confident Liverpool side looking to inflict a ninth consecutive Premier League defeat on the team from South London.

Patrick Viera has his first win as a manager in England. It was a thoroughly deserved one at that, with Palace extremely good value last time out against London rivals Spurs, even if all three of the goals arrived once their opponent was reduced to ten men. Odsonne Edouard netted his first goals in English football, scoring a late brace from the bench, and must surely be in line for his first since joining from Celtic.

Having dug deep to earn a 2-2 draw at high-flyers West Ham the time before, Palace will head up to Merseyside with the wind beneath their wings. In fact, this is their longest unbeaten run in the league since April, last managing successive wins way back in February. However, as the team with the second fewest amount of shots on target (9) so far this season, they must produce a clinical display at Anfield.

Liverpool Vs Crystal Palace Betting Advice

A 14-match unbeaten streak in the league doesn’t appear to be in any imminent danger for Liverpool. The Reds take on Crystal Palace this weekend having won all of the previous eight meetings between the sides in the Premier League, scoring 24 and conceding five. This includes the last four at Anfield by an aggregate of 11-3, with three of these seeing Jurgen Klopp’s side preserve their clean sheet.

Liverpool Vs Crystal Palace – Key Facts:

  • Just two points dropped so far from Liverpool, who are now unbeaten in the league since April (W11 D3). All three Premier League wins in 2021-22 have been To Nil.
  • It took Crystal Palace until their fourth league game of the season to pick up their first win (D2 L1 beforehand). Scoring five times across their last two such matches.
  • Liverpool are seeking a ninth successive win over Crystal Palace. A goal for Sadio Mane would see him become the first Premier League player to score in nine consecutive games against the same opponent.

With five goals in their last two league games, though, Palace will fancy their chances of causing a stir on Merseyside. Especially after seeing the problems AC Milan caused Liverpool here on Wednesday. Palace once went six successive league games scoring at Anfield, but have now fired blanks three of the last four times. Meanwhile, Liverpool have led at half-time and full-time in all three league wins thus far.
