Liverpool Preview – Can Klopp’s men get the win and move to within two points of their first title in 30 years?

A Merseyside derby at Goodison Park for the first game back in three months was never going to be the easiest of games for Liverpool and so it proved. Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated possession but had little cutting edge, partly due to Mohammed Salah not being fit enough. The one point, combined with Manchester City’s win at home to Burnley on Monday, means the earliest Liverpool can win it is at the Etihad next Thursday.

That in itself would be a fitting way to win it now that all games are behind closed doors anyway.

Whenever Liverpool do win it they will be deserving of it. The Reds have been top all season and have been relentless in pursuit of their first title since 1990. It’s even more impressive considering their narrow miss last season.

The draw with Everton was just the third game where Liverpool have dropped points this season but two of them have come in their last three matches. And when you expand to include all competitions then Liverpool have won only one of their last five matches.

Crystal Palace Preview – Will Palace continue their excellent run and make it five straight wins?

Roy Hodgson will return to Anfield on Wednesday night looking to be the cause of a further delay to Liverpool’s title party. His Crystal Palace team have been excellent in their last few games, winning four straight. Palace have not won five Premier League games in a row since 2014 and few will fancy them matching that record tomorrow.

The run of wins which Palace have put together essentially sums them up. All four have been won keeping clean sheets and they have scored only five goals. That’s the formula that Hodgson works to and whilst it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, it works incredibly well for this club.

Jordan Ayew has been the surprise package for Palace this season with his goal against Bournemouth at the weekend taking him into double figures for goals for the first time in his Premier League career. As unexpected as it’s been, it’s been absolutely crucial as the next highest scorer is on three goals. It’s also more than a third of Palace’s total league goals.

Whatever happens in this game Palace are well clear of the bottom three and considering their slow start to the campaign, added to their paucity of goals, to be safe with so many games to play is pretty remarkable.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Betting Advice

It’s a decade since Roy Hodgson was appointed as Liverpool boss and it’s fair to say his time is not fondly remembered by anyone. Both the club and himself have come a long way in that time and they will face off tomorrow in very strong positions of their own.

Palace ran Liverpool very close in the meeting at Selhurst Park, only losing out to a late Saido Mane goal.

Key Facts – Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

    • By only drawing with Everton on Sunday the earliest Liverpool can win the title is next Thursday
    • Palace are looking for their fifth straight win, something they haven’t done in the league since 2014
    • Liverpool required a late Saido Mane goal to take all three points at Selhurst Park back in November

We’ve seen from the games played so far since football’s resumption in England that there have not been many goals. There’s clearly a number of reasons for that but the style of these two teams suggest that this could be another l0w-scoring affair.

Four of Liverpool’s last seven home games in the league have had two or fewer goals in them whilst six of Palace’s last seven have also went under 2.5 goals. The visitors will come to sit deep and frustrate and it makes under 2.5 goals look an obvious play in this one.
