English Premier League Betting at Bet365

Liverpool – Fortress Anfield in ruins?

In 2021, only three teams – all of whom are no higher than 14th in the table – have earned less points than the 10 from 11 games of current Premier League holders Liverpool (W12 D7 L8). The Reds on course for the worst title defence in recent times having already set various unwanted records during this most brutal of seasons. And unless there is a dramatic turnaround, even the top-four seems out of reach.

No reigning top-flight English champion had ever lost five consecutive home league games before, nor had Liverpool as a club, but that was the stark reality for the reigning champions as they were beaten 1-0 by top-four rivals Chelsea in midweek. A deserved loss after another limp Anfield showing, to go with losses there against Burnley, Brighton, Man City and Everton. Could Fulham soon join this list?

Liverpool have not lost at home to Fulham in the league since May 2012, winning all three subsequent meetings on Merseyside without even conceding. But on current form, and with the Cottagers looking a more competitive outing these days, anything is possible. One thing is for sure, though, and that is this is a must win game for the Reds who are now four points adrift of the Champions League places.

Fulham – Cottagers still wanting in attack?

There was a familiar feel in midweek as Scott Parker’s side produced another admirable performance, some might even go as far as say dominant, only to feel short-changed as they were somehow defeated 1-0 at Craven Cottage by rivals Tottenham. Fulham (W4 D11 L12) have now failed to win any of their past 22 London derbies and, in turn, missed a golden opportunity to reel in 17th-placed Newcastle.

Fulham remain three points shy of the Magpies, who occupy the closest position of safety, after losing for the first time in six league outings last time. This despite out-shooting their opponents 11 to 9 and, by all accounts, dominating the majority of the second period in their search of what would have been a deserved equaliser. Had it not been for a harsh VAR call, Josh Maja would have given them it.

Now, though, they must prepare for back-to-back matches against the league’s undisputed top-two in the past two seasons, Liverpool and Man City. The former await first, and there is a growing sense that their vulnerable hosts at Anfield are there for the taking. A point would suffice for Parker, though, and his side are well-placed to achieve that feat having not lost in seven away Premier League games (W1 D6).

Liverpool Vs Fulham Betting Advice

In the reverse fixture back in November, Fulham provided a Liverpool side who had made a positive start to the campaign with an almighty scare. The 1-1 draw flattered the reigning English champions, to put it mildly. Scott Parker’s men have made significant strides ever since, in particular defensively, and could frustrate Jurgen Klopp’s beleaguered Reds who are coming off five straight losses at Anfield.

Liverpool Vs Fulham – Key Facts:

  • Five consecutive home Premier League defeats now for Liverpool, who now host a Fulham side unbeaten in their past seven away league games (W1 D6).
  • Goals could be in short supply at Anfield on Sunday. Liverpool are without a goal in five of the past six league games here, with six of the last seven going Under 2.5 Goals.
  • Fulham boast clean sheets in three of their past five away league games but are without a goal themselves in their previous three visits to Anfield (L3).

Despite all the woe surrounding them, I cannot see Liverpool not prevailing – which is odd considering the likes of Brighton, Burnley and even West Brom have gone to Anfield this term and left with something to show for their endeavours. I don’t anticipate a goal rush, though: the Reds are without a goal in five of the past six home matches whereas 15 of the last 17 league games involving Fulham went Under 2.5 Goals.
