Many had already crowned Manchester City champions at the turn of the year and there was little expectation that Liverpool could mount a challenge. Now, heading into the first weekend of April and it is Jurgen Klopp’s men who have a chance of going top. The Reds’ recent run of form has moved them to within a point of the leaders and – with Liverpool playing first this weekend – it is a chance to put even more pressure on them.
Klopp’s men have run off nine straight wins in the league. Add in a League Cup triumph, qualification to the quarter finals of the Champions League and progressing into the semi-final of the FA Cup means it’s been a very productive first quarter of 2022.

Watford come into this game having won just their second game in Hodgson’s reign – both of which have come away from home. The 2-1 victory against Southampton keeps their survival hopes alive but there is still a lot of work to do.

Watford are three points behind Everton but they’ve played to games more than that rival. There are some really big games coming up against teams in the bottom half of the table but it should also be noted that they also have to face the top three all away from home, starting with this visit to Merseyside.
Hodgson will take some confidence from the fact that his team have taken seven points from their last four away games. Although this is an acid test, it does indicate their style of play does suit playing on the road.
