Preview: Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool can move to the top of the table with victory at home to West Ham on Saturday. The Reds are unbeaten in eight top-flight meetings with The Hammers, who played their part in a thrilling spectacle here last season – failing to hold on to a 2-1 lead as they were beaten 3-2.

Liverpool Preview – Mane & Salah to ensure business as usual at Anfield?

After losing defender Virgil van Dijk for the entire season, the last thing Liverpool needed was Fabinho picking up a knock that will see the Brazilian spend the next few games out of action. Jurgen Klopp knows his squad is down to the bare bones for what is set to be a crunch period, with fixtures against West Ham (h), Atalanta (a) and Man City (a) all to come before the November international break.

The positives for Klopp will be that his team have now won their past three matches in all competitions. Victory over Sheffield United last weekend made it four wins in six Premier League games (W4 D1 L1), sitting behind only Merseyside rivals Everton on goal difference in the table, while Tuesday’s ugly win over Danish champions FC Midtjylland at least kept them top of their section in the Champions League.

Both aforementioned victories came at Anfield, where The Reds are unbeaten in their past 62 league games (W51 D11), and a quick-fire hat-trick of home successes on Saturday would send them into next week’s pivotal clash at Man City with some margin for error. Meanwhile, Sadio Mane (5 goals & 3 assists) and Mohamed Salah (6 goals & 2 assists) have been heavily involved across their last six meetings with West Ham.

West Ham Preview – Can Moyes’ men hammer out another upset?

Defeats in their opening two Premier League games of the season, at home to Newcastle and away to Arsenal, had fans and pundits alike fearing the worst for David Moyes and West Ham as they embarked on a hellish run of fixtures. So you can imagine everyone’s dismay when last week’s hard-earned point at London Stadium, drawing 1-1 with Man City, ensured a fourth-straight league game without defeat.

Since suffering back-to-back league defeats at the start of the campaign, West Ham have convincingly beaten both Leicester City (0-3) and Wolves (4-0) – both, I hasten to add, whilst keeping a clean sheet – came back from a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 deficit away at Tottenham to draw 3-3, and now held Man City. Favourite backers should be wary, then, as David Moyes’ men have recent form for defying the odds.

A win at Anfield, however, would top the lot. Despite possessing a wretched record away to Liverpool – with one win on their last 47 league visits (W1 D12 L34) – West Ham arguably came closest to snapping The Reds long unbeaten home streak last season, leading 2-1 up until the 68th minute before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat. While in Michail Antonio (11 goals in 13 league games) they boast one of the league’s hottest forwards.

Liverpool Vs West Ham Betting Advice

The start of an important period for Liverpool. Usually they would be supremely confident about the victory; they’ve not lost in the league to West Ham in eight meetings, winning six, while they’re a perfect four wins from four at Anfield this season in all competitions. Defensive injuries, coupled with some questionable displays, suggest Saturday is likely to be anything but straightforward against in-form visitors.

Liverpool Vs West Ham – Key Facts

  • Avoid defeat and Liverpool will equal a club record 63 league games unbeaten at Anfield, with their current 62-game streak comprising 51 victories and 11 draws.
  • David Moyes has never won away to Liverpool in the Premier League in 15 attempts as manager of Everton, Man Utd, Sunderland and now West Ham (D6 L9).
  • Liverpool haven’t lost a Premier League meeting to West Ham since August 2015 (W6 D2 since); with each of the last five Anfield encounters seeing four or more goals.

West Ham, who are four unbeaten (W2 D2), have been terrific of late. David Moyes’ side have scored in all three away outings this season, netting three at Leicester and Tottenham, and so are evidently capable of breaching an undermanned and vulnerable Liverpool defence. Goals seem inevitable therefore, even before taking into account that the four previous Anfield encounters between these side have gone Over 3.5 Goals. Liverpool winning the last three.
