Two teams in need of league points meet on Wednesday with Hibernian making a short journey to face Livingston in what is a rearranged clash.

Livingston Preview – Can Livi end their poor run and record a first win in seven league games?

David Martindale was adamant earlier in the season that his Livingston team wouldn’t be relegated. Now, as they come into this match second bottom of the Premiership and just two points above Ross County having played a game more, that confidence may just be waning slightly. Livi played well for the majority of their weekend match with the other team from the capital, Hearts, but paid a price for not taking their chances.

It means a third straight defeat for Martindale and his players having also lost to Rangers and Aberdeen. Their last victory was away to Ross County in October and they have to arrest that slide as soon as possible.

Sunday’s game was another indication that Livingston are lacking a prolific striker. They created a number of excellent opportunities but unable to convert any of them. It’s a third blank in five games and only St Johnstone have scored fewer goals than them so far this season.

Martindale will also be particularly keen to get some points at home. Livi have prided themselves on being extremely hard to beat at the Tony Macaroni Stadium but they’ve taken only one point from the last four home matches. Ironically, the only win they’ve recorded here was against Celtic back in September.

Hibernian Preview – Will Hibs climb into the top six with just a second win in their last nine Premiership games?

Hibs may have reached the final of the League Cup, which will be played later this month, but that has been the only highlight in recent weeks. A 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell on Saturday means it’s only one victory in their last eight Premiership matches. It’s a far cry from having being at the top of the table coming into October.

That solitary league win in the last couple of months came against 10 man St Johnstone towards the end of November. However, a victory here would put them into the top six again and still have a game in hand over most of the teams above them.

Hibs will have another couple of games before that showpiece match against Celtic at Hampden so you sense it’s an important run of matches not only for league points but also for players to guarantee themselves a place in the starting line-up – that should give the squad even more motivation.

Their away form has been particularly concerning. The win in Perth is their only success on the road since the opening day of the season. There have been three defeats in the five games in between so they head into this fixture somewhat fragile.

Livingston vs Hibernian Betting Advice

The win is the important thing here, especially in what is likely to be difficult conditions and during a run which sees both teams playing a lot of football. Hibs were victorious when the teams met at Easter Road towards the beginning of the campaign but they’ve won only two of their last five visits here.

Both teams know a win would see them climb at least once place in the table and take advantage of being the only Premiership fixture this week.

Key Facts – Livingston vs Hibernian Betting Tip

  • Livingston have slipped to second bottom having taken only three points from the last six games
  • Hibs only win in their last eight games came in their last away games, a 2-1 win away at St Johnstone
  • It was a 2-0 win for Hibs when the sides met at Easter Road earlier in the season

This game screams a low-scoring one. With confidence low in both camps I expect recent trends to continue. Five of Livi’s last six games have had two or fewer goals scored and that’s the same for four of Hibs’ last six league games. Take under 2.5 goals in this one.
