Livingston and St Mirren meet on Saturday as both teams go in search of what would be just a second win of the season in the Scottish Premiership.

Livingston Preview – Can Livi make home advantage count as they look to bounce back from defeat last time out?

Seven games into the season and it seems somewhat remarkable that Livingston’s only league win so far has come against Celtic. It probably shouldn’t be seen as a surprise considering that is now five games unbeaten at home to that opponent. It was a performance you would associate from David Martindale’s team. They were happy to let Celtic have possession in certain areas but denied them space the closer they got to their own goal.

More importantly Livi also carried a threat when they did when the ball, breaking quickly and scoring a goal of real quality to collect their first victory.

The concerning thing for Martindale is that they have not been able to match that performance and on the face of it, it looks an isolated display. They’ve since loss at Ibrox and Tynecastle without scoring a goal. That means it’s now six losses in their last nine games.

Stretching back to last season and it was four straight defeats at home for Livi which – considering this is where they pick up the vast majority of their points – is concerning. Scoring goals in general has been an issue too of late. They have failed to score in four of their seven Premiership games so far this season and never more than one goal in any of those.

St Mirren Preview – Will Saints build on their first win by taking all three points home from this one?

It took seven games and would have felt even longer for Jim Goodwin and his players but St Mirren eventually recorded their first win of the league season last week – coming back from 2-1 down to take all three points at home to Aberdeen. The win itself was important but the manner of it will also be pleasing for Goodwin as his side showed resolve to come back having taken the lead but also taking advantage of their opponents going down to 10 men.

Prior to that win St Mirren had drawn three straight and four of their first six games. So whilst not winning matches they were also not losing the majority of their games and they will now hope to build on last week’s result.

The only blight on St Mirren’s away record in the league is the 6-0 loss at Celtic Park back in August. They’ve drawn their other two against Dundee and Hibernian. Both of those games finished 2-2 showing that this is a team who are now capable of scoring goals on their travels but also conceding more than they would like.

Eamonn Brophy was brought to the club from Kilmarnock last season and despite a relatively slow start he has scored in the draws against Dundee and Hibs and will be hoping to add to that in this game.

Livingston vs St Mirren Betting Advice

Both managers will look at this game as being really important. Not only is it a viable opportunity for the two clubs to find their second win of the season but it’s also the last match before the international break and one could go into that on the back of an important three points whilst it could be a particularly long couple of weeks for the losing team. Livingston could even be bottom of the table if they fail to win this one.

Key Facts – Livingston vs St Mirren Betting Tip

  • Livingston have taken just four points from a possible 21 to start their league season
  • St Mirren earned their first win in the Premiership this season having drawn four of their other six
  • Livi have won five of their last seven at home against Saints

Livi do have a good record at home to Saints in recent times. They’ve won five of the last seven but they just aren’t scoring goals the now and their opponents are, on their travels at least. That win should give them some confidence and for a team who have lost only two of seven it does look a good opportunity for them to get a second win in the league season.
